Note this is todays, but they are repeating they stopped making the comic strip as soon as the T.V show came out but the T.V show isn't bound to be around much longer it has raised much controversial talk and there have been 3 banned episodes in Season 2 because of BET (Black Entertainment Television)

I love this show. Much funnier and more intelligent than crap like Family Guy (incoming flame war). The quote in your signature is one of my favorite lines...classic. I'll have to watch these banned episodes when I get the chance.

Oh, I should also mention the comic is hilarious too, but I haven't had the opportunity to read many other than ones archived online.

The show is awesome, but the comics are much better. The Boondocks rock.

there is an episode of the boondocks, entitled "the block is hot" I believe, that is an excellent critique of capitalism and the inadequacies of the moderate left.

This is a link to that episode just in case anyone hasn't seen it, It is very anti-capitalist and one of my personal favorites.

Ya, its one of my favorite lines as well, but it was a tough choice between this and The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.

I love this show. Funny as hell.

Uncle Ruckus is hilarious and also you gotta love the political messages in the show, combining it with comedy.

The Boondocks is tied with South Park as my favorite cartoon. Both shows keep get success do to potty humor but blows the rest out of the water with its witty intelligence and political messages.

Boondocks is probably the finest show on television right now, along with Metalocalypse. It helps that both have amazing soundtracks.

I didn't know they still made the comic strip. I haven't been seeing it in my local paper since around the time the TV show started.

I didn't know they still made the comic strip. I haven't been seeing it in my local paper since around the time the TV show started.Ya sadly they don't actually make it anymore (I said so beneath the picture) but the put out reissues every day on http://www.gocomics.com/boondocks/ I also strongly recommend that you buy this (http://www.amazon.com/All-Rage-Boondocks-Past-Present/dp/0307352668/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_k2a_1_img?pf_rd_p=304485601&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-2&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=0740706098&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0GH4CHKX7E22ZMMP1JHE)

Brilliant comic strip. The show is okay. The best episode by fare (though I haven't seen nearly all of them) is the metaphor on the Iraq War and the contrived reasons the US put forth to justify invasion... which was acted out in a brilliant sequence in which Huey and his brother were taken to find the "real killer" with two Iraq vets but end up going to, and subsequently shooting up, a corner store. "The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence!"

Dude! Thank you for this link, I have been looking for that episode forever!

Chapter 24
12th June 2008, 21:14
The Boondocks is an awesome comic strip and show, though I think the latter is more entertaining. I don't know what exact factor it is that draws me into the show, whether it xamines the dialectical opposition between the thought of Huey and Riley, the cultural divisions driven by racial thought, how free enterprise and politics contradict themselves, etc. However they examine these issues they always make it absolutely hilarious!
Whether or not Huey is actually a communist isn't very debatable to those who say he's not. Obviously he is a leftist of some sort, as one can tell by his rhetoric and actions. For example, the Che poster in his room, and in the episode where he makes a plan to free an innocent black man convicted of murder and is about to be executed, he plans that his life on the run will follow the path of leaving to Cuba.
Also there is one of my favorite episodes, the one where they sneak into the movie theater, and he encourages one of the employees to make a labor strike; and during one of the scenes you can hear that same employee speak of the "liberation of the proletariat as defined by Marx."
But whatever, enough with the whole "analyzing a fictional character's political alliance" crap. It's a funny show, not something to analyze through political viewpoint!:)

I admit I don't follow the show very much, but some time after becoming aware of my leftist leanings, I did manage to catch an episode where Huey's grandfather opens a restaurant with the help of this rich capitalist fat cat (who proceeds to fire all the employees of his old restaurant, minus the Mexican "illegals", to make way for the new one). I just kept thinking about what a bastard that rich guy was, especially since the food was making many people ill (not to mention obscenely fat), and the restaurant was destroying the community, all for the sake of profit.

In the end, the restaurant closes down, but the park across the street, which the capitalist had been coveting for some time but for an obscene price tag courtesy of the state, is ruined to the point that he apparently gets to purchase it after all, and he proceeds to destroy it to make room for his enterprise. Some sick shit there.

Yes, it's great, but Huey Freeman is a reformist (and according to the comic strip, a Naderite).

I've seen the TV episodes. Quite powerful messages, and great character development. Huey's an interesting character. It won't really mean much to society, just a form of controversial entertainment.

I used to read the comic strip in the paper until they removed it.
I'm not all for the on-line comic thing. . .I hope I'm never that geeky.

It was too "offensive". . .you know; liberal.

It was replaced with a relatively non-political "black" comic strip.

Sugar Hill Kevis
22nd June 2008, 11:24
I've got a few of the books as well. The show is great, but it's a bit more entertainment-centric. Insofar as the show focuses on the antics of Riley and Grandpa "*****es" Freeman, with Huey occasionally mediating as the voice of reason.

I like the strips as they're much more Huey-centric.

If you like Hip Hop you should get a hold of the Hiphop Docktrine mixtapes (there's two of them), it's music from the show and a bunch of other stuff as well. They're ace.

The Boondocks is quite humorous. They actually showed the banned episodes in Canada. Some episodes to amount to much, but others are quite profound. "The Return of the King" was my favourite. Anybody know if there will be a Season 3?

Sugar Hill Kevis
22nd June 2008, 22:58
Apparently it's in the pipeworks... A quick question to anyone with the season 2 DVD, does it have the banned episodes? I know there were 2 more based on BET (that I saw online), but apparently there were c. 5 episodes banned overall? Someone mentioned that originally the series run was supposed to be much longer. I was wondering if there are any more on the DVD?

Apparently there might be a movie as well...

On the flip side, there is an episode of the boondocks, entitled "the block is hot" I believe, that is an excellent critique of capitalism and the inadequacies of the moderate left.

This episode is also 1 of my favorites for mostly the same reasons it also has a awsome depiction of a " Peaceful protest " !

The commercial claims it does.

I just got the two seasons but in some episodes words are bleeped out which is annoying, is that part of the show or am I watching censored versions?

For example, in the first episode with the garden thing do you hear the words "fuck", "shit" etc.?

Lector Malibu

I can't get into them actually. The Boondocks Saints though not related was a great movie though.

Agreed. There's probably never been quite such a mix of hilariousness, on-point social commentary, and amazing music on television.

Watched a few episodes.

Some funny stuff. They had a "Che" poster in there of the main character. Rather interesting use of his iconic picture.

LIES!!!!!!!!!!!! According to the strip Huey is a revolutionary socialist (with ties to Afrocentrism) who wants to create a revolution to overthrow the capitalist society. He advocates Nader to show the people that there are options other than the two major parties. Additionally, in the Block is Hot episode he physically destroy's the lemonade stand.

My name is Chris and I'm a Boondockaholic.

Also, the best episodes of the TV show are:

5. Wingman
4. Home Alone
3. Return of the King
2. ...Or Die Trying
1. The Block is Hot

Rosa Provokateur

Best episodes: the one where Rummy and George try to kidnap Oprah and the one where Grandad sneaks crap into the movies.

I like it when Huey fights Ruckus outside the movie theatre.
And when he torches the lemonade stand.

Study Tagalog. For that word end up used and anglicised by the occupier, the worst is that they changed its meaning.
