Indiana Jones Makes Communist see Red!
http://www.reuters.com/article/entertainmentNews/idUSL2344657520080523?feedType=RSS&feedName=entertainmentNews&pageNumber=2&virtualBrandChannel=0
Though the ranks of the once all-powerful Communist Party have dwindled since Soviet times, its members see themselves as the defenders of the achievements of the old Soviet Union...
"In 1957 the communists did not run with crystal skulls throughout the U.S. Why should we agree to that sort of lie and let the West trick our youth?"
A comment worthy of Sky.

I can see how this has the potential to be spun into another "oh look at those looney leftists" type story, but it's not that peculiar. I imagine most people would object to a movie which attempts to portray their nation and their preferred system of government in such a negative light. It would only be aggravated by the fact that the West are fairly likely to believe this stuff.

I saw the movie--if I wasn't an RevLfeter (tho' just an OI) I wouldn't have thought anything of it. To be honest--I kind of winced at the Soviet references. They did make the Soviet woman quite sexy, so that took away part of the stigma.
But you're wrong about the "preferred system of government." Communism as it "was" is dead in Russia. If people want to build a "new" Communism--have at it. But the old Communism is dead.
RevLefters have a great opportunity here.

Not to the members of the Communist Party who see themselves as the defenders of the achievements of the old Soviet Union. Read your own first post, and remember who the news article is referring to.
So... just how sexy was she?

I never cared much for Indiana Jones. James Bond had gadgets. Laura Croft was also more eye-appealing than Jones; unfortunately, her movies were terrible.:)

I just wanted to repost a bunch of remarks from another forum, both comradely remarks and OI:

Which only goes to prove that communists are the most humourless of the far-left. I once saw on CSPAN the Communist Party of America giving out their annual film awards. That year, Titanic won for illustrating the current class conflict.
They're just lucky no one is Hollywood is making the film that needs to be made: the one that depicts Stalin as a murderer worse than Hitler. That and the one that shows how the Native Americans were treated... not to mention what the US did to its own citizens in the 40's and 50's (or the treatment of the Chineese, Mexicans, Irish, Catholics, etc through most of American history (given we already have some idea about the blacks)).
Most modern-day communists are Trotskyist anyway, and would have no problem with Stalin being portrayed as a bad guy. It was Stalin, after all, who had an icepick put in the back of Trotsky's head.
The problem with modern communism is its complete disconnect from the actual labor movement, from the real world. Most modern communists have no idea about real communist theory or they have extrapolated it to an extreme level, for example the massive foolishness of the 'vanguard' party, but not the vanguard party Lenin imagined, a vanguard party for these communists meaning an oligarchy of the 'enlightened'. I am not a communist, and with good reason. Communists are, for the most part, either authoritarians, reformists, or teenagers who just want to rebel.

Philestines!
Anyway, it's probably best not to get too wound up about the historical accuracy of mindless pulp action. I don't believe, for example, that the Nazis went looking for the Ark of the covenenant in Egypt.

naa they did. I KNOW they did. Also there used to be this underground kingdom in india, where a magical priest pulled peoples hearts out by saying "KALIMAR". I assume no revlefters took offence at this? Indiana Jones is funny, although i thought the new one was pretty crap. The aliens were fucking ridiculous... but i guess the ark of the covenant is hardly realistic.

I just recently got back from seeing it and thought it was awesome, :D. Plus it didn't seem real anti-communist. The guy who betrays Indy, can't remember his name :(, says that it is all about the money for him because he is a capitalist, :D

I did hear on a documentary once that they actually went searching for it in Africa... So either it's a crazy world or just a crazy documentary.

What about the Bourne series? Does anybody like that? It's pretty much the anti-bond, all action. Plus, it shows some of the negative behavior of the CIA.

I didn't like the super shaky cam during the fight scenes. Other than that I think they are pretty good.

Agreed. They are good films. Actually, I'm going to watch the third one tonight probably, but I've seen the first two.

The Nazis actually DID go on a bunch of missions looking for 'artifacts from previous aryan civilizations' and all sorts of goofy shit... Take a look at this

It's wikipedia, so everything must be taken with a grain of salt, but Hitler actually WAS into all this silly occult stuff.
