Just a question about our position mainly in Ireland on travelers , Would we support their cultural rights to to be unsettled etc or since they wouldn't be contributing directly to society would they not deserve any support from society ?
Thoughts?

I am just wondering about do we defend their cultural and social rights to be nomads or do we say if your not going to help out society then go away silly lumpen ?
Never gave it much thought till today so forgive me if I'm a bit close minded or being stupid ?

I am just wondering about do we defend their cultural and social rights to be nomads or do we say if you not going to help out society then go away silly lumpen ?
Hast thou a reason to do otherwise?
Do'st thou think that those whom choose to freely exercise cultural practices, of which are not detrimental to society, nor demeaning to persons, or anything of that nature, is an act worthy of intolerance, or marginalisation?
If one wishes to feed off the labour of a society, whilst contributing naught, like a parasite, or a capitalist, for no other reason than they do not want too, then there is an issue worthy of consideration.
But if they choose not to take part in one form of social organization, economic organization, etc. in favour of another of which can co exist, then I see no quarrel with them, or any reason to marginalize them - as if it was ever okay to marginalize anyone.
Forgive me if I have misunderstood.

I've found the stereotypes about gypsies is completely wrong. They would be left alone.

There's no reason why travelling people can't contribute to society - indeed in many cases (though gypsy history is complicated and difficult to generalise about) gypsy communities across Europe have been itinerate suppliers of goods and/or services to static communities. If anything it is the ideology of capitalism and its aversion to the free movement of people which has marginalised and inhibited gypsy labour culture.

Of course we should support the travelling community.
It would be worth noting that 80% of all metal recycling in Ireland is done by travellers. They are not 'worthless' to society, far from it.
Though, given a socialist society, I suppose it could be theorized as to whether a culture of nomadism would be sustainable, or whether it would die out. Thats beside the point though.
