I voted option 4.

I'm not too crazy about but some songs are good for riffs, shreds and solo's.
And the kids in my neighborhood annoy me.

Their first three albums were great, but Slayer were a much better thrash band.

5 or 6 good songs?? All of Slayer's songs sound exactly the same, therefore they're all great.

Mostly good, with the exception of the last three albums, the EPs, and the live albums.

Here's how I'd rank 'em, in terms of the "Big Three" thrash bands:

1. Reign in Blood.
2. Master of Puppets.
3. Peace Sells (But Who's Buying?)

Slayer has sick guitar parts, but I don't like the vocals much at all. Whenever I listen to Angel Of Death I feel a little sick.

"Angel of death/monarch to the kingdom of the dead!"

I actually like "Epidemic" the best on that album. That and "Postmortem".

I love angel of death its one of my favorite songs by Slayer.
Although I recognize that it is a little fascist:(

Hardly anyone would consider Fascism as fun or desirable upon hearing that song... A band with fascist intentions would never depict the horrors of the Nazi regime in detail. Slayer also had a song "Jihad" after 9-11, written entirely from the point of view of an Islamic terrorist - I doubt they have become radical Islamists.

I get that, but I still don't like listening to it anymore than I enjoy looking at pictures of mutilated corpses.

Saw 'em last year, and they've still got it. But their early stuff (Kill Em All, Ride The Lightning) is just unbeatable.

I've got a friend who's a die-hard Metallica fan and he tells me that Master of Puppets is his favorite album, as it is many others'. He said something about them getting into more of a "rock" sound starting in the 90s and it basically went downhill from there.
I can't really vote in the poll as I haven't listened to Metallica too much, although I listen to "One" quite frequently. But what I've heard from them I've really enjoyed, I oughtta listen to more.

Get Master of Puppets and Ride The Lightning, they're both excellent metal albums. The Black Album and And Justice For All are alright, but nowhere near as good the earlier stuff. Don't even bother with St. Anger, it's shit.

i apoligise if this is in any way odd it is my first involvement in the site

As artists i believed they have been less pushed and are now producing the music the want to, I view them as two bands I like both bands but the first bands large reputation has lead people to expect things that the second wont live up to.

I like all of their stuff

agree with the guy that mentions slayer is okay untill you hear those lyrics

To be honest, I really, really like the load and reload albums. Ok it may not be true down to the core metal, but its just good hard rock (2x4, the house jack build, the memory remains, the unforgiven 2). I would pick load or reload above st. anger anytime.... Ohyeah I am quite optimistic about their new album 'death magnetic', which comes out in september. The samples I heard kicked ass

Besides that, they said and done some idiotic things, like the napster case, being proud their music is used for torture ('oh we support the war against terrorism') and some other things, like touring with a lot of sellouts and allowing the covering of 'Nothing else matters'

Not only does their music suck, but they are also bastards

They are the first band to wage war against downloading music, the first people to fight their fans. Total ass holes, total ass music

Got their first five albums but nothing after that as they pretty much went shit after the black album.

Oh yeah Manowar are the fucking kings of metal and anyone who disagrees is a false metal loser and enemy to true metal.

personally i love metallica, both old and new. i think they have done so many things that you dont see associated with metal. I think one reason i like they is because they do what they want, and not whats expected of a metal band, whether i agree with everthing they do or not.

I enjoy Metallica's material from all eras. Their thrash stuff is of course better (on average), and really solid stuff. I still love bands like Slayer, Megadeth, Kreator, Venom, Destruction, Vio-lence better but no doubt Metallica started thrah and influenced the legions of bands to some. There Load-Reload more blusey rock sound isn't bad, its simply much more different but still good. The Black Album (which was more straight-up rock) was also good and a great album in its own way. More commercial, not as thrashy yes, but still a fun album. Hell even the "dreaded" St. Anger isn't terrible and fresher catchy/jazzy nu-metal sound. The Unamable Feeling is a masterpiece period. So yeah...

there music is good. I hate their politics, althogh i give them a little bit of respect because they once went on tour with Ozzy the best metal rocker of all time.
