I haven't posted on here in ages. Anyway I'm doing my 1st year at Uni Comp.politics exam very soon and I want a few pointers as to how you would answer the following 2 questions...

(1) Compare and contrast pluralist and Marxist accounts of political power.

(2) Assess the impact of the 1989 Tiananmen event on Chinese politics.

To be honest I don't have a bloody clue on the 1989 Tiananmen event!! As I said before a few points would be great.

Thanks in advance!

google 'ralph miliband + political power'.

Try find a pdf called "who governs Britain".

there are many others. He is a Marxist, and made a career out of this kind of question.

Lenin's state and revolution is actually quite relevant.

hmm, in terms of question 2, its quite easy. the Tiananmen massacre occurred in order for the chinese communist to stop its own collapse. look at the berlin wall and east germany, how the communists there failed to move against the mass demonstrations. etc. Tiananmen essentially was used because they learned from the east europeans and soviets how to stay in control. just read about the european socialist bloc collapse and then say the chinese communists saw they had to act to stop a similar collapse in china.
