Comrades:

The Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Trudovaya Rossiya (Working Russia)/Anpilov, the Soviet Officers Union, and the AKM (Avanguard of Red Youth) held an "alternative" Victory Day march and meeting in Moscow on May 9th. Below is my translation of just the first paragraph of the CPRF statement regarding the lack of coverage of the event.

To see a video of the march and meeting that followed go to:

Victory Day Report on the CPRF website
Not one federal television station in their news reports of May
9th mentioned the 50,000 strong demonstration of the CPRF in
honor of the Holiday of the Victory. The announced liberalism of
the new leader, Medvedyev on the first day of presidency engaged in
severe censorship and policing of the electronic mass media...

Pretty cool stuff, I'll be honest I haven't followed Zyganov at all, how much support does he really have? I mean people in my hometown of Byisk all have nostalgia for the USSR but laugh at the prospect of it coming back, they don't think its possible.

The CPRF is big, at least compared to Communist Parties in the west, but I don't see much good in it. They're very nationalistic and even collaborated with fascists and right-wingers to assault a gay pride parade in Russia.

They're not that different from nationalists who just want Russia to be powerful again to challenge the U.S.

And people would support it, because in many ways life in the old USSR was better for many people than today. There are four people in my building who are from the USSR (3 in Russia, 1 in Ukraine) and they all said life was way better back then (social programs, work, etc) in comparison to today over there.

Is there a REAL left in Russia today???

apart from the CPRF and their allies, there are scattered groups of anarchists, trotskyists, etc, but they're not very big or influential. It's a pretty grim situation.

I hate the capitalist situation in Russia so much there that I might throw my two cents if need be with the nationals, ugh... nationalist socialists, gives you the creeps doesn't it. In any case the rhetoric seems positive.

I marched with Zyuganov in the early to mid-1990s after the outlawed CPSU was ressurected as the CPRF (I regret I didn't fight alongside Anpilov's "Trudovaya Rossiya").

The unfortunate part is that The CPRF has become revisionist in the sense that they are more into fighting the government on the political playing field in the bourgeois elections to the Duma, Presidency, etc. Their youth arm, the AKM (Avanguard of Red Youth who participated in the march) is more revolutionary and ready to use violence than the CPRF!

In retrospect, the first mistake that Zyuganov made came right after he lost the first election after the dissolution of the USSR to Yeltsin by around 1% of the vote. He should have called for new elections and then called for the people to go to the streets and tear the place down! The election was rigged, but Zyuganov had such huge support at that time Yeltsin's government had a tough time stuffing the ballot boxes enough to get Yeltsin elected.

As time went by people became poorer and worse off. However, they also became apathetic to an unbelievable degree. Active Communist support started to slowly dissipate.

I don't see any changes in the near future, but the Communists are gaining ground among the young people. Unfortunately, so are the NazBols (Limonov's fascists) and Putin's crowd is solidly in power for the time being.

Comrade:

I have a copy of Limonov's Russian National Bolshevik Party Program somewhere, but can't find it. If you read it you won't even joke about throwing in your two kopecks with them anymore.

Just look at their flag. It is an exact copy of the flag of Nazi Germany except it has a black hammer and sickle in the middle of the white circle instead of a swastika.
