Some strange things coming out of Russia recently,
soviet-styled army parades and hammer and sickles on banners...

Remembering the Victory and the tens of millions of people who gave their lives to accomplish it IS an IMPORTANT MATTER!
Here in the U.S. it has been ignored for so long that noone cares very much anymore (including leftists). In the East, where 90% of the war was fought and the Nazis were destroyed by the Red Army, the struggle and Victory will NEVER be forgotten or belittled.

Yes, it has always been strange to me that in the U. S. more attention is given to some relatively unimportant events on the Italian front in 1943 - 1944 or to El Alamein that to grandiose battles of Stalingrad or Kursk which actually shaped the course of WWII.

No need to get on the defensive.
I meant its odd that they used the hammer and sickle in their posters, but I guess, looking back now, they are just using it for memorability's sake.
PS Nice pictures. I didn't know they even had the flags out too. :) Nicely done Medvedev, you dirty KGB puppet.

Workers marching in solitary is far more of a tribute to those that fought in the great patriotic war then troops. Show the bourgeoisie and fascists that the spirit of the revolution is still alive in the workers.

I know the root of the problem. Your all jealous that you don't have such kick-ass parades. I think Putin and Medvedev have a warm spot for the USSR but not enough to do anything about it. In any case a Soviet style parade! common guys.

What do you think will spook Russian fascists more, soviet style parades or massive worker solitary marches with working singing the Internationale?

Both :). Ones better than nothing and if you're Russian and you don't get at least a bit fired up from it theres something odd about you. Yes Psy a real workers march is much better but hey, it was May 9th, thats whats it about, the military. In any case Zhyganov apparently organized one (different topic).

Eh, July 4th is more fickle a date considering its irrelevancy in historical context. You would think a proper date from the American Revolution would be celebrated.

The workers WERE the troops and still are.
And, if you are interested in seeing a march and demonstration by Communists, go to the thread "50,000 Communists March in Alternative Victory Day Parade" (Politics section) and have a look at the video.
