Clinton and McCain keep pushing for this supposed "Gas Holiday" in which they will temporarily suspend the tax on gas. My question is: What sort of economic repercussions could this have?

It is a stop gap measure, high gas prices will cause inflation, fuel is required to transport commodities (and transporting workers) and also used heavily in production thus the higher the commodity of gas is, the higher all other commodities are.

Of course such fixes will only buy the bourgeoisie time.

Pure marketing gimmick -- it's a partial government subsidy of the price of oil, so it's essentially a short-term, populist measure for the campaign season.

Notice how the Dow has been stalling for months now amidst the financial debris falling from the sky? Anyone in the markets for the sake of profit has basically bought themselves a new faith, nothing more.

D'you get the feeling lately that your life has just been going in slow circles for years and years now? If so you're not on the left.

Also please see 'politicking around oil':

Awful Reality

I did my own math. It saves me $12.15 a month. What can I do with that? Not much, I guarantee. It saves the nation $1.86 Billion>Less than we spend in a week in Iraq.

It's faux-populism.

That's the big issue with it. It sounds great, but it really doesn't save much at all. Besides, neither Clinton or Mccain can actually do that this summer since they are not president yet and there is no support for this outside of them. It's just a bullshit gimmick that won't happen, so don't worry about it.
