He claims to be so anti-corporate, as he was under contract with columbia records, one of the largest american music corporations.

He thinks the US is the "evil empire, yet even as a millionaire he still choooses to live here.

Get serious.

He's signed to Epic records, part of Sony, which is a larger corporation, cappie.

I still enjoy the band, though. They donate a hell of a lot of their money from their concerts to various causes. I went to one of their concerts and bought a t-shirt for ten bucks, which was guarenteed sweatshop-free of course. Compare that to the thirty dollar hats sold at other concerts I've seen.

But still, it bugs me that they're signed with Sony. One Minute Silence, another leftist anti-corporate band, was offered deals from larger corporations than they are with right now and refused, choosing to sign with V2 Records, which is quite obscure.

Americana, as much as i admire rage and zack i think you're looking for heroes in the wrong
places. Zack writes inspiring messages and makes us angry, but what has he done to be
admired for? sure he sings about the need to take action-He should consider his OWN message.

CI, Zach considers himself to be"infiltrating the system" by singing with epic. An interesting philosophy-one must become a part of the machine before he can change it.

does anyone know how much he makes and what percentage of that he donates? I know for a fact that he supports the zapatistas and mumia, and probably umpteen others, but how much does he donate to the cause? I respect the man for 3 reasons: the music rocks, he made me a leftist, and he has dreads. :-P

this forum does belong somewhere else, but since it's here i'd like to get something off my chest.

i'm so FUCKING sick of these douche bags calling rage hypocrites. I read recently of this guy who went on rage's site for their freedom fighter of the month section and he said something like "i wish i hadn't won that, a lot of my friends gave me grief for that because rage is with sony and are kind of hypocrites, blah blah blah I am a stupid fuck"

What a stupid fucking dipshit. Blah, blah, blah rage is on a major label. Does this fuckup really think it would be better if they had been on a small indie label. think about that, I know "using the system to take it down" is kind of a cliche, but with music, rage reached millions more people being on a major label. If all movements are kept underground it will be very hard for people to learn about them. Maybe if you were going to fault rage for anything it could be that they didn't move off of sony after building up such a huge audience, i could see that, but criticizing them for becoming famous and making money is fucking stupid (by the way they are moving to a smaller label for the next release). This stupid fucking kid is just practicing what a lot of people do- moral elitism. That type of purity is unnecessary right now and is hurting any movement more that it would help. I would love to find this kid and beat him till he is crouching in the corner untill his ego is shattered, and he can't come into the light anymore. i could spout on about this for a damn long time, but this is already long enough, so let me end with: douche bag, rage kicks ass, critics can suck my balls, rage rocks, great fucking lyrics, great fucking revolutionaries, beat into submission, stupid fucking kid.

ps does anyone really think the world would be better if rage was on a small indie label, and broke up due to lack of audience. I don't know about some of you people, but i know i wouldn't be here right now if it wasn't for Rage Against The Machine!

Yah, I agree with Alejandro. Dudes, take a step back, look at the big picture of the world, goddamn it doesn't fucking matter who they were recording for! They have good music and a good message.

Lefty is right, Zack has supplied the Zapatista's most of thier arms and food rations and ammunition, give the guy a break, Mumia wouldn't be out right now if it weren't for him.

Also, my last message - I love anarchists who can't spell. :)

Seattle has a statue of Marx erected in its city. Perhaps those yarmos over there will erect a statue of Zach de la Rocha right next to it. Difference is, Zach is more or less, insignificant in the grand scheme of things. His desire to change the political structure of our country has been a failure, as many of the doped out fools who attended Rage Against that Machine concerts failed to recognize the political implications of the message behind Rage's music. The just thought it was good rap/rock.

I think that was miss information as well. As far as I know he is still in prison for life but off of death row. but, he'd be dead now if it wasn't for Rage Against the machine and Zach (or zack)

also I would not have knowen about che if it wasn't for RATM and I wouldn't have become a socilaist if it wasn't for che so I owe a bit to Zach (or zack)

BTW does anyone know when his next CD is due out?

Seattle has a statue of Marx?

Incredible! Do most people support it? Do any protest it? Let me guess, it was erected by some freakin' labor union.

Yhe pacific northwest is some of the most beautiful country in our nation, my father's side hails from portland. However, the region's tendency to lean to the extreme left and accomodate tree-huggers and leaf-chewers is a bit disconcerting.

Odd then, that Seattle is the home of Microsoft and Starbucks is it not??

Capitalist Imperial
3rd September 2002, 00:08
Yes,it is, and also it was home to Boeing up to about 2 years ago.

It was also home to those protesters at the WTO conference a while back. (Was it the WTO conference?). It also seems to be the hub of eco-warriors such as "Earth-First" and environmental fundamentalism.

It is certainly a land of contrast.

Just because Zack De La Rocha makes a lot of money does not mean that he keeps it!! Why do people think that he is a hypocrite, he donates millions of dollars (plus his time) to many organizations. How many of us can say we donate over half of our money?

OMFG all you idiots who say zack is a hypocrit are so fucking dumb and have no clue. I have followed that band since they came out and I know their shit. Almost all of their concert money was always given to movements around the world and to fund mumia, peltier, rock and rap confidential, and ezln.

"If I fight fight poverty and I am poor am I a hypocrit?"

excellent reply. Rage signed with sony because it was a strategy to get their message out. They are not rich at all. Thier goal was to educate the masses. At a concert of thiers i was at once they had someone steal shirts from a merchandise stand and they sold them on stage for $10.00. All made in U.S.A. (i bought one)
Zack is a true revolutionary and he should be honored for his defiance just as he honored Zapata.

its definitely zack--i love everything he stands for and his music. If you'll notice, on the back of all ratm cds it has a list of WORTHWILE organizations that they give money to. While he is certainly wealthy, and that might make him a hypocrite, he is way the fuck better than any other non-indie artist in terms of where his profits go.

I download all albums that i own on mp3
EXCEPT for those of rage. i buy them.

don't forget Rage got pissed when Sony decided to pull of their tracks that the public could download for free

if it wasnt for zach, i wouldnt be left, I had always liked the band, and then one day, i sat down and just actually listened to the lyircs, and being the stupid All-American gung-ho nationalist I was then, i got pissed, like who the fuck does this asshole think he is dissing my country, we're the best, blah, blah, blah, fuck communism ( I didnt even know what communsim was, I just knew the russians were commies, we didnt like the russians, so that made commies bad and us good, as i was taught in school) so I went researched this stuff he was saying, and i was in complete and utter shock, it took me like 8 months of hard studying of histroy and so much, the "un-learning" process was really hard, but yeah.... i had more to say but im really tired, been up since 3 am doing a huge ass community service porject ive been working on since april
