CNN's Lou Dobbs, who styles himself as a populist concerned about the plight of American workers, mocked the international workers' holiday on 1 May 2008. Instead of honoring May Day, Dobbs instead finds it suitable to observe a fascist "National Law Day" whose very aim is to undermine the workers' movement. Dobbs demonstrates not a concern for working people. Rather, he behaves more like a spokesman of the regime he pretends to oppose. Lou Dobbs is a serious danger to democracy and peace and must be held accountable for his dangerous propaganda.

Lou Dobbs is just one of those that does'nt understand Globalization and its effects. I would'nt say he's racist or a fascist or anything, he just does'nt understand. I think anyone that knows illigal immigrants and their stories should think to themselves "What situation exists that would force people to go through such an ordeal." Rather than think, "Hey they're braking the law." On Lou Dobbs side I think its just ignorance, self-infilicted ignorance.

I would definitely say he's a racist, but totally ignorant of his prejudice, like many Americans.

Look at any show that features African Americans. The networks decide that a culturally black male would be too threatening, so they create jokes like Wayne Brady, Will Smith and Bill Cosby.

What makes Will Smith or Bill Cosby not "culturally black?"

Take a look at the shows they represent, Bill Cosby's especially. The shows rarely if ever take a deeper look into the African American community's plight. The shows were created by networks not willing to come to terms with their (the networks and much of the white community's) guilt.

I'm not saying that taking a look at the (small) African American middle class and upper class is bad, but it's wrong when those shows are aired disproportionately to those that have a progressive meaning (though I can't seem to think of many).

You hail from Milwaukee, so you should be well aware of the deep seated racism and segregation that plagues this city.

Well now you're saying something different. You seemed earlier to be implying that there was something about Bill Cosby or Will Smith that made them personally not "culturally black." But I think the effect you perceive is not the effect of racism, it has two causes:
1. People generally find it more enjoyable to watch positive fantasy than depressing reality. This is especially true if you are making a sitcom. After all, people don't generally watch television to take "a deeper look" into things, they watch it to be entertained. But even more than that...
2. There was a conscious effort on behalf of white liberal TV executives to portray blacks as successful, intelligent, and upwardly mobile, not motivated by racism but by the desire to provide positive role models and counteract popular stereotypes. In other words, they did it precisely out of the guilt you say they refused to acknowledge. And in this, they were fairly successful I think. Sherman Park isn't a dump because too many people there see themselves as potential physicians.

I realize I could be disillusioned, coming from a city with almost 50% black male unemployment and extreme police brutality. But looking at places like Gary, Detroit, St. Louis, Oakland etc, I don't think things are much better elsewhere.
