"UP to 1,600 workers at RTE could walk off the job later this month after union members voted in favour of taking industrial action in a bitter row with management over pensions.
"The RTE Trade Union Group, which represents SIPTU and the National Union of Journalists, the two largest groups at the broadcaster, will meet next week to decide what form of industrial action they will take.
"A ballot of its members voted 85pc to 15pc in favour of taking industrial action in a bid to improve the pension entitlements of workers who joined the broadcaster since 1990.
"Before that date, all workers were part of a guaranteed superannuation pension scheme. However, this was closed to new entrants, who were instead offered a defined contribution scheme which gave no guarantee of a final pension amount."
