Mayday in İstanbul was violent as it was last year. There were about half a million there. Ankara was quieter though the police did use a little tear gas:

Ankara was quieter though the police did use a little tear gas: The Hak-Is (very very pro-AKP trade-union) march was quiet and there was no tear gas or anything there.
In the march that we went to however, although the amount of tear gas used was not comparable to Istanbul in anyway, it was not little either.
Apparently there were some other clashes following the tear gas, and people started throwing rocks and they ended up the gravely outnumbered police under the Sihhiye bridge run away (I didn't notice all this at the time, I was trying to avoid tear-gas and find the others, both rather unsuccessfully).

That's an impressive number, especially where the May Day is not recognised.
By the way, what does the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party want to liberate Turkey from exactly?
American imperialism, of course :glare:

Umm.. capitalism?
Which, naturally, is what suicide bombing/assassinations achieve. Right? Suicide bomb capitalists to death...?
Normally 'people's parties' are more interested in freeing the 'people' from 'imperialism' than wanting to encourage 'working class' emancipation from 'capitalism.' ;)
American imperialism, of course :glare:
And what do they think of Turkey's own imperialism?
And what do they think of Turkey's own imperialism? They would be ignoring it pretty much, the highest insult they would attach to a faction of the Turkish ruling class is "fascist" or "collaborationist (with American imperialism)". The Turkish Stalinists generally don't call the Turkish state "imperialist". After all the Stalinists are striving to be the "true" patriots.
