A very interesting place, to be sure, and imo even more so in the light of the Kosovo issue. What do you guys think, can this little place become de jure independant, should it, and when?
From what I can tell, the Russians want it independant, and the west doesnt, so its kinda like a reverse Kosovo.

^^^ "Reverse Kosovo" states happen to be the two breakaway regions in Georgia. This slim region in Moldova cannot survive as its own country. I'm also waiting for the Ukraine to break up in two.

Yet you felt compelled to post that.....
Seems interesting but the last thing the world really needs is further division and nationalism.

I thought the same thing. a post linking to an informative article on a region of the world undergoing serious problems, well "nobody cares", but the fact that some guy doesn't care, well, that's news, and worth posting. irony eh

I think it's too slim to survive as an independent country and as far as I can see the Transnistrians aren't any different to normal Moldovans.

Actualy, almost a third of them are Moldovans. The rest are mostly Russians and Ukrainians, so there really is no Transnistrian nation as such.
But as far as survival goes, they are surviving as a de facto independant country since 1992, I dont see why they shouldnt be granted an international reckognition, and make it easier for everyone there.

Well, there are a lot of "reserve Kosovos" lately.
Im guessing you mean the Russian populated part of Ukraine that wants to secede, right?
