One thing that I'm sick and tired of is people putting so much effort into making sure no body is offended by what they say. Yes, you can offend somone but thats no reason to hide or alter the truth to mkae it better for them, recently in a couple days i've heard so many damn euphemisms it starting to sound like newspeak. Also along with avoiding to tell the truth to avoid offending people comes along jingoes, nationalists, then they go into zealots, and eventually into senators ( >.> ), what do you all thing on the topic of "Potitical Correctness"?

Because racist and patriarchal attitudes have been historically dominant language has been influenced by them. It is necessary to use gender-neutral and non-racist language to build unity within the working class. Whining about "political correctness" is reactionary.

The problem isn't political correctness, but the fact that many people use it superficially.

[Sorry 'bout the wait, was trying to find a fucking avatar that din't have a cat on it.]

Okay, alter the truth as in seeing something (such as our reasons to go to [insert any war]) and making it seem like we are the international good guy and et cetra.

And unicorn, I think derogatory things are never needed. But making somthing seem much better or acceptable to someone else is just plain manipulative.

What is this something you are referring too?

Are you just talking about the propaganda techniques of Americas imperialistic capitalist agenda?

or are you referring to something else? Like people perhaps

If there was an Irish pub in a church I'd be the most god-fearing man ever.

I find it funny that the champions of political correctness are white middle class people usually.

I think its rediculous personally, and humorless.

You can't force language, change society and language will follow, people who go around using rediuclous terms that no one else uses because they feel they are less sexist or racist are really just wasting their time with trivialies.

A good example of Political Correctness thinking in RevLeft would be Abortion. Even vaguely hint you are not 100% pro-abortion and even the most saunch Red Flag waving Marxist will get thrown into OI by the PC police. No different than any other PC mechanism for any other political group

And indeed it is both rediculous and humorless. :(

Sorry, but everybody holds prejudices against one another. A more progressive way to approach bigotry would be to acknowledge your prejudice and work to minimize it. To say that you aren't racist when you've grown up in a generally racist culture (the West) is simply laughable.

I'm not a racist. Living in America does not mean that your automatically racist.

How do you know how I have grown up?

See, that's what I'm talking about. I'm sure you hold prejudices against others just like everybody else. Now, how strongly those prejudices affect your decisions is another matter.

No I don't see what your talking about. You are making an assertion that I am a racist because "I grew up in the west"

Not everybody is a racist or whatever you wanna call it. Stop trying to water down bigotry.

Thats rediuclous, if your talking about stereo-types, then maybe, but that does'nt translate to racism at all. Stereo-typing and racism are 2 different things, racism is when you believe one race is superior, and you look down on other races, or treat them differently, as lessers. Stereo-typing is not racism, its making generalizations, and most poeple do it to a slight degree, and generally its not negative, for example would you call me a racist if I went up to a Hispanic looking person and spoke spanish to him? Probably not, but I was stereo-typing, but its not racism. Its the same way we stereo-type foods.

Also it has nothing to do with your culture you grew up in, everyone stereo-types. Also America is not extra-ordinarily racist, many, many other countries ahve way more racism.

The Khmer Rouge and the Spanish Inquisition used to interrogate prisoners with questions like this.

I hope you never get control of any of the intelligence services after the revolution comes.

You're right, I definately got the two words mixed up. Though there are prejudices people often connect however unfairly to people different than them. It ranges from blatant bigotry to very subtle stereotypes.

America isn't the most racist country on earth, but the fact we still have FOX News puts us ahead of a great many nations.

Ah don't worry. If these punks try anything, I'll be on the opposite side.
