Would you be able to have a computer in a socialist society? Any thoughts? I mean it is a potential capital good. The black market is the only true free market and I don't think that any government could ever stop it.

What if it was standard issue? Then you all could have one :) Or maybe there would just be internet cafe's, that is, if they are legal.

Thenevery aspect of the internet would have to be regulated and monitored to ensure no one was using it for capital. Meaning you wouldn't be able to have any privacy.

It's hard to see why there wont be computers in the coming utopia. There will be a requirement for internet filtering and logging software as well as online denounciation forms for when that pesky neighbor gets the crazy idea that socialism is not all it cracked up to be. The socialists will also place popup ads promoting the glorious revolution, giddily trumpeting the successes of the lastest five year plan that started 2 weeks ago or warning about the evils of religion. Maybe they'll have an offical website for the GULAG where you can watch 'counterrevolutionaries' being beaten or raped via ReeducationCamŽ. Why stop there when you can also see live webcasts of the latest show trials or download updated 'Kulak Liquidation' statistics. The possibilities are endless.

Are you saying that people should be punished by society for not agreeing with socialism? I don't see how the internet could even exist without people having the freedom to use it as they chose, and advance its utility. Under a utopia, they would be stunted from advancing due to lack of motivation. Unlike the prolitariat, people who make new ideas want to profit from there work. I wonder why those who can conceive concepts unknown to the "average man" thinks he can profit from it. Do you have any idea?

My post was a sarcastic way of saying the under socialism all dissention will be brutally punished. I haven't been here in a while so in case you don't know, I'm a cappie.

What they don't realize is they wouldn't even get the freedom to own the goods (which would all be potential capital goods) needed to tape their own brutal dispays of the strength of majority. At least they could feel satisfied with the fact that anyone who didn't cave in to the majority like them ended up dead. Not relying on your own ability in life is okay, because those who refuse not to will be killed; and they deserve it for not sacrificing themselves.

first of all Sweden a socialist country gives everyonr a computer and a cell phone.
Also you are making generalizations.
I suggest you learn that there are several types of socialism.
Some that allow some private buisness and some that don't at all.
Personally I think people can start small buisnesses however those heartless corparations are unnecassary.
You really need to learn more about socialism before you criticize all of it as one

Through all the labeling of economical movements there is one philisophical question: should government control or should government leave it alone? As soon as you allow government control, you have sacrificed your independent control over your existance to the government. I don't care if my socialist country gave me a computer, free internet, and a cell phone, if they were to tell me that it was in exchange for my freedom to make contracts and do business with who I pleased, when I pleased, doing whatever I please, as long as it doesn't violate another persons individual rights. It is worthless to have anything if you are not allowed to use them how you please. You can't compromise your control of your life, and still maintain your freedom and independence.

however I never said people shouldn't have buisnesses.
I said the workers should be treated better. And Companies should be more closesly monitored so things like what happened at Enron don't happen.

Who invested in enron and why? Corporate America has went to crap, but not because of capitalism. The people who lost all of their money on an investment in Enron prove my point. The people used an ideology that represents the philosophies of socialism, among other things. They expected someone elses labor to create their wealth. This is proven by the fact that they would invest all of their money(assets) in something they don't understand. They carried a philosophy of dependents of others in the society to get their wealth instead of indepently creating it themselves. They lost the capitalist philosophy of independent wealth to the socialistic veiw of provided wealth, and got screwed. Not because of capitalism, but by their own lack of independence. Now it is claimed that this is grounds to set the philosophy that put these individuals in this position into law.
We should say how a owner controls his business.
I would say, why have a business if you can't truely run it yourself?
It is the same reason I wouldn't "own" property in America. Which is truely an oxymoron at our socialist state. You can't own, you can simply lease your property here. You pay the socialist machine that place the capitalist. It is an old trick, I me since the beginning of time, a big philosophical hoax that has deteriorated man's mind and his confidence in it.
