nternationalist socialist weekend in Stockholm! (June 6th)

June 6th is the National Day of Sweden, on this day 2004 and 2005 Antifascist Action arranged a marsch in Stockholm for International Solidarity. In 2005 the nazi movement countered with their "Peoples Marsch" that the following years was met with more (2007) and less (2006) successful counter-protests.

This year, Stockholms socialist and antifascists movements think BIG and plan to arrange a weekend dedicated to socialist internationalism, with a big internationalist demonstration and a whole lot of different activities. There will of course be time and space to act against the nazi marsch as well.

So I would warmly recomend you international comrades to lay notice to this early june weekend, talk with your friends and comrades and see if you can arrange a common trip to Stockholm!

What is an internationalist weekend without international comrades? We anticipate comrades from all over Europe, so come you as well!

There will be a big marsch for internationalism and international solidarity (a few hours before the nazi marsch) in central Stockholm 6th of june, the following day (7/6) there will also be a big outdoor tent-party in a park with DJ:s, artists performing, outdoor-cinema (Salvador, http://youtube.com/watch?v=gwduZ7BcHSc), merchandise and hopefully a big football coup.

My experience with the Swedish antifa leads me to believe that they are perfectly capable of dealing with this sort of thing. I have some criticisms of Swedish antifa. It seemed from that experience that it's very gendered and macho. Antifa has to be careful not to become some violently entrenched boys club.

What are your experiences with them?

They are in the Reddelich camp at the German G8 and were incredibly aggressive towards other activists at the camp when they couldn't get their own way, essentially usurping democratically agreed decisions. It seemed to me that they were there for a fight with the police/fash and nothing else, to the detriment of democratic processes. A lot of them seemed uncaring about the politics and some of them hid molotov's in the camping area (barrio) nearest the entrance, which I was in, in case of police confrontation - regardless of the fact they'd been asked not to do that. They were a bunch of boys playing soldiers.

Antifa needs to be careful in ensuring it doesn't turn into that. It's a political motivated network with specific class politics that acts as a tactic connected to wider struggles - or at least it should be.

The NMR (Network Against Racism) demonstration gathered around 1800 participants in a long marsch through central Stockholm.

At the park, where our demonstration ended, speaches were held by various groups before our gathering departed to confront the nazis.

Taking the subway from the park (southern part of the inner city) to where the nazis are gathering (eastern part of the inner city) we passed the Central Station, and there waited the entire Swedish Resistance Movement (SMR), psychopath nazis. Antifa were spread out over the train (and some were taking the next train etc) so there were only a few antifascists in the wagon when the door opened and at least 80 nazis attacked. The antifascists defended themselves and managed to escape without getting seriously wounded. The SMR later got into fight with the police.

The SMR were eventually arrested for being complete morons and screaming about Adolf Hitler, killing people and awakening the swedish barbarian. They were later released.

Earlier that morning a nazi bus was going to depart from Gothenburg to Stockholm with a load of nazis. Antifascist attacked, the nazis and the bus fled leaving one of Gothenburgs leading and most violent nazis behind. The sledgehammer intended for the bus found its use on his legs and his head got some beating as well. But his life was never threatened.

Later that day several nazis were confronted by antifascists. The largest confrontation took place at a swedish suburb. An antifascist scout followed a large group of NSF-activists on a train, eventually leading to their cars. Phone calls were made and soon a group of antifascists descended upon the fascists, chased them away, stole their stuff and set their cars on fire.
