I've been snooping around this forum for about three days now. It has a lot of really helpful resources, and I've decided to join to learn a bit more, if that's ok.

I've always been a leftist, and recently, I've been thinking that maybe reform just doesn't cut it anymore, so my stay here is to sort of to learn if communism and anarchy really are possible; not just in theory.

Unfortunately, over here, it's very difficult to get hold of that many decent books. So, I'm sort of cloudy on history. A lot of the people on here look like they have a degree in the stuff, so I'd really appreciate it if someone could show me a good website or something that outlines some of the main historical events. Anything from the Spanish Civil war to Russia.

So, about me, I'm a 17 year old Palestinian, living in Aberdeen in Scotland now though; and pretty soon I'll be migrating to Glasgow Uni to study Politics and Philosophy. I read the communist manifesto a good while ago, and I'm familiar with most of Marx' theories, and the criticisms. I have to say, he's hard to argue against.

Oh, and one thing, I've been sort of afraid of this whole "restricted user" thing. I'm a muslim, and I have a pretty firm belief in God. Does that mean that I have to go to that tiny forum where all the capitalists hang out or something? That would be annoying...

Anyways, that's the introduction over, and hopefully I'll be able to learn a lot on here.

Thanks for reading.

Hi, welcome to RevLeft.:)

Being a Muslim won't get you restricted - in fact, we've had admins and moderators who were religious.

Edit - This is from the FAQ

I heard you have rules against preaching, is this true?

Yes.

1) Justifying religious hierarchy, Preaching to or converting other members is not tolerated and religious ideas belong in religious discussions.

2) If any religious sentiments are expressed, they obviously belong in the “Religion” sub forum in OI.

3) Personal beliefs/positions on religion/spirituality should not affect an individuals overall status on RevLeft if kept within the Religion forum. Though this is not to say people won't be held accountable for otherwise unacceptable behaviour.

Hello, good to see a new face.

If you are looking for information I think there is a forum called "Learning...", in which you can ask questions or read what is already posted. I don't really know of many other good places though, sorry.

About the restriction thing... As far as I understand the restricted forum is for reactionaries, so basically as long as you keep a relatively open mind and a progressive attitude it shouldn't be a problem.

Ahh, thanks for the warm welcome, and I wasn't even going to bring up religion at all, so don't worry :).

I've already been to the "learning" bit, and I'm reading up on the Das Kapital post. Pretty helpful.

Thanks again :)

i know at least one of our posters on here is going to glasgow uni this year as well so maybe get in contact with him ('bolshevik butcher' is his username) and 'blackflagrevolutionary' is involved with the pro palestinian struggle in Glasgow so maybe contacting him could be of use as well,

welcome to the board,

Welcome comrade :star:
You can find a lot of thinks in net but i suggest books. They are more close to the person and for me more helpfull. You say you want to learn and for anarchy so i suggest you Malatesta besides from others well known(Kropotkin,Bakunin) because for me his writings are the "best".
