He was from Serbia, and came from a VERY left politcal backgound in the 19th Century! He invented AC electricity for household use and created the frightening TESLA COIL. Tesla took great delight in terrorising his audiences by shooting lightning bolts from his finger tips, and lighting lightbulbs in his mouth, etc.
He was at least 100 years ahead of any American scientist in he field.
....do you think socialism was responsiable for motivating Nikola?

Tesla, despite being born in Serbia was an American scientist, where do you think he worked? This begs the question, do you think America's environment had anything to do with his work?

humm...I was under the impression that he started his scientific ventures in Serbia, and later got recognition in America.
ohh well. this post has king of back fired on me.

He had a lab in Colorado Springs for quite some time. Every once in a while he would fry the entire grid, leaving the city in total darkness. Most of the funding for his experiments came from Westinghouse, which was one of the largest conglomerates of its time.
I don't think that he was motivated by anything but pure scientific research. He did have a hatred for wars, and aspired to create a superweapon that was so powerful that anyone would be foolish to go to war. Some speculation remains in the origins of the power source that cause the destruction of Tunguska. Some say it was Tesla. Does this superweapon remind anyone of anything? How about M.A.D.. I guess it was a concept first noted by Tesla before the discovery of nuclear chemistry.
Nikoli was a member of the glitterati as he entertained the social elite with his amazing discoveries and inventions. Mark Twain and Tesla were also good friends. When he died, his notes were taken by men in the government. One thing is certain, anyone who has units of measurement named after them remains an interesting individual, and deserves their place in history.

See ID, when the bulk of your education comes from Command & Conquer, you're bound to stick your foot in your mouth every now and then.

Yeah, it is a good game, but far too simple. And yeah, those tesla coils are neat defensive weapopns.

Tesla Coils are awesome! I saw one at a Califonia "pyro" show. zthey hoisted a women on to a platform and charged he up with 2 Million Volts...I've never seen 10 ft lightning bolts radiate out of someones hands before! Yeah...indeed Tesla was WAY more advanced than anyone in his time! He pulled this stunt off 100 years ago!

Tesla made Edison look like a third grader. haha.

Your comment made you look like a third grader. Give me the facts. How did Tesla make Edison look like a third grader?

What was so great that Edison ever made, when he did not have someone else come up with the idea or have others help?
Tesla created the alternating circuit, used vastly right now.

Tesla invented ultra high voltage transformers and often made himself apart of the Tesla Curcuit. As I said earlier: Tesla used to scare the "hell" out of his audiences by tossing lightning bolts from his finger tips. He could also levitate, and create ball lightning. He even tried to build EMP cannons and lightning guns back in the 19th century. Edison was a great scientist, but Tesla was a far ahead of this guy.

exactly.
Stormin norman- why do you still try to discredit me you asshole?? It is called an "exagerration." stop whining about my posts. Like i said, my posting here isn't to show off my intelligence but to actually learn and get a wider view of leftist politics. WHy do you insist upon criticizing me??

Edison was more of an inventor than a scientist... he took other scientists ideas and atempted to put them together into an invention that would command a good profit. He had no original idea; rather he took other's ideas and put them to work.

Ideas like harnessing eectricity and the light bulb?
C'mon, stop trying to discredit edison. He harnessed electricity before tesla, he is the one who invented the radio, and the light bulb.
Thew were his original ideas.
Stop trying to justify Tesla over edison when in fact edison was superior at applying science to benefit mankind.

You obviously do not the subject at hand.
Edison did not invent the lightbulb, hell, he did not even know what to use a filament. A black man came up with that solution.

actually tesla has been given the credit for the radio, after the fact
