I'll admit, when I first heard of the 9/11 attacks, I was SCREAMING for blood. I'd fallen asleep the night before with the radio on. I was in the process of moving out of my condo and into a new one and so had had my cable turned off. No TV! Fuck........So I listened to NPR at night for a few weeks.

I woke up the next morning, they were doing "man on the street"-style reporting at that point. I'd slept through the whole fucking thing. I heard sirens and a lot of commotion in the background. It was 10:45ish (yeah, the Kid sleeps in occasionally) so everything was basically over. But I heard someone say, hurridly, that Washington was on defcon 4 or something. I saw "War Games" with Matthew Broderick when I was little; I know what "defcon 4" means. And it is not good. I'm sure you guys would love this film. It deals with thermonuclear annihiliation. Mutually assured destruction. Go rent it. I guarantee you'll be online here within seconds after it's over with battery acid dribbling from your bottom lip.

The next thing I heard was that both twin towers had collapsed and the Pentagon was on fire. I got up (the same INSTANT awakedness you get when you're supposed to be somewhere at 8:30, you look at the clock and it's 9) and sort of panicked. This sounds stupid now, but I thought we were being invaded. I mean, all the real estate between the two areas they mentioned, I was sure there more attacks going on too. At this point, on NPR they were just getting news about the Penn. plane and were speculating that there were at least 7 more unnacounted for. Holy shit..........And they'd just put steel bars and posted armed guards to protect the Constitution.

I started pacing. I was listening to first-hand accounts of people leaping off the top floors of the WTC. I was ready to join the fucking signal corps. My medical condition, I knew would keep me from fighting, but I swear if you'd given me a camera and kevlar I'd've been out there right behind our Marines. In the shit. I was furious.

"Out there..............." :)

I know. There's no way I could've known it was "them". But your gut talks to you. However, I remember after OK city, EVERBODY, EVERY major news network speculated it was them "middel easterners ovar they'are...." Turns out it was a hick Gulf War Veteran who was a failure with women and a paraniod with an inferiority complex. ALTHOUGH, holy shit does that guy they just arrested in.........Detroit, I think, the dirty bomber....holy shit does that guy look like the John Doe number two they never caught. Velly intewesting.....

But anyway, I was ready to kick some ass. I called my boss at work. I'll never forget what he told me.

"Put your uniform on, kid."

That was scary. But I'd've done it. I still would. If it happens again, I'll do whatever I have to.

I'll try a different argument. A lot of racists are members of MENSA and have IQ's of 135 or over. The founder of the WCOTC Ben Klassen had an IQ of 140 and was a millionaire property devolper. He also invented the electric can opener and wrote many books.
