Well, I suppose the fourth is one of those holidays that holds whatever signifigace you give to it. For some, it's just a day for BBQ and bottle rockets...

~~The fourth to me has always been in honor of the brave souls who took up arms against a tyrant. The fourth of July 1776 was a momentous day that renewed hope to a loosing campain and reinforced their resolve.

I think it is quite ironic that conservitives who would clearly have been on the side of the loyalists in 1776 honor a day brought to you by the periods most 'dangerous radicals' all with a price on their heads.

I could clearly invision "Capitalist Impierial" at a town meeting in 1776 ranting on about dangerous radicals that don't mind when England fights the French and Indian war to protect the colonies, but revolt when time comes to pay the bill.

I always enjoy Revolutionary war reenactments on the fourth of July.

The reason Canadian Day is so insignificant in comparison to the 4th of July is due to the fact that Canada's acquisition of its independence was anticlimactic. The Canadian's who were torres were given their independence by a failing empire. The U.S. won our freedom from the most power army of the day. The 4th is so much more than just reason to drink beers. Try reading the document that gives Independence Day its significance. Yet another reason we are superior to our Canadian brothers.

While St. Paddy's day was started by Irish in New York to honor the Saint and to show solidarity of faith in a nation that was mostly protestant at the time...

... it has become so much more than that. It transcends national boundaries to unite Irish people in solidarity wherever they may live.

On March 17th, I enjoy watching the oldest St. Paddy's day parade. People from all over the world to watch the parade. I've met many people there from Ireland, Scotland, Canada, England, even from South America.... All there not to honor a nation or government but a people who are scattered all over the world.

The Celibration didn't need a national government to form it. It was started by Irish Americans in the 18th century, while back in Ireland, The English would never allow the Irish any such form of pride.

I apologize to the board for my irrational behavior earlier. Most of the times I try to maintain and objective approach when discussing things on this board. Rarely do I resort to name calling or personal attacks, but sometimes it is hard not to respond to certain things with complete disgust. The people whom I have insulted are deserving, most of the time. If I say something in haste that offends someone else, I will be the first to admit that I am wrong in that approach. However, people need to realize that words have a specific meaning and are used for intended purposes. If someone espouses an opinion, they have a right to do it. That does not mean that others have to respect it. When the opinion is so ridiculous or dastardly, it is other people's obligation to point it out, refute it, and ostracize the purveyor of that specific thought.
Whatever you do, do not compare my initial reaction to Stalin Soldiers comment, with that of RGacky's torturous threats to Michael. My response came directly from my reptilian brain as pure instinct. Rgacky's comments were rooted in his mental illness and intended to disgust the people on this board.
