To answer the question regarding the U.S. being a police state, I would have to say that it seems to be moving in that direction.

Norman.. I see that you, like Capitalist Fighter, are diffirent than the standard Capitalists here. Just wondering. Do you support the war against terrorism? And do you support America, or think it needs to change? You don't seem to be like the standard "GOD BLESS AMERICA" cappies that come here..

I agree 100%. Don't you think that this is a problem? In England, you always hear right-wingers praise the "Zero Tolerance" program of Rudy Guilliani.
No doubt that he has reduced crime and anti-social behavior. But in order to do so, the number of cops in New York City has nearly doubled.
The prison population has risen dramatically. And whole working-class neighbourhoods have been alienated by constant stop-search harrasment and intimidation.
Putting someone in Prison is enormously expensive. Hiring cops is also expensive. Getting tough on the alienation, social exclusion, illiteracy and drug dependancy that fuels most crime is an absolute bargain.

On the other hand, Russia yesterday finally adopted a new code of legal rights (effective Jan 2003) which will allow for some penalties OTHER THAN incarceration (prison time was previously the only sentencing option, even for minor offenses). Oh yeah, and they'll finally have jury trials for crimes other than premeditated murder. Over a decade after the fall of the Soviet Union.

The USA pretty much ran Puerto Rico as a police state for the first 54 years of it's rule. Now it has our political parties do that for them, lol.

To answer the question that was posed way back when; yes, I support the war on terrorism. I am a little critical of the steps taken so far, because I feel that they are not nearly aggressive enough. We should be in Iraq right now. We shouldn't be helping N. Korea develop a light water nuclear reactor, until there is a change in the government there. We should be aiding Isreal with a forced removal of the Palestinians into neighboring countries, which have been supporting the terrorism behind the scenes. Libya, Syria, Lebanon, and countless other nations should be put on alert and offered an ultimatum. If they fail to meat our demands then we should make good on our threats. That is a simple version of my stance on the war on terrorism.
I love my country, but have an intelligent fear of the government and the power that it holds. Am I satisfied with current conditions? No, I am not. I think our political system has been corrupted by leftists with the consent of the majority. One of the things I fear most is the tyranny of the majority. Look to the history books in order to see how dangerous this phenomenon can be. Most of the evil acts carried out in the last century were condoned by the citizens of those respective governments. Will there be another Nazi Germany or Bulshevik revolution? I doubt it. Although history repeats itself, it rarely does it in precisely the same way.

Liberal Americans = Communist Americans
Democratic Party = Communist Party
Affirmative Action = Legalized Racism & Sexism
Higher Taxes = Ban on Free Enterprise
Public Schools = Poor Education = Government Thought Control
Socialism = No Competition = Laziness = Inefficiency
Communism = BIG GOVERNMENT = Slavery = Tyranny

I've seen several assertions on this thread that "America is moving toward a police state", but I have not yet seen any examples or action that shows such a movement. Can anyone provide me with examples of how the US is moving toward a police state, besides blowing a few war-time actions out of proportion?
