I go to a private school (bizarre concept as that may seem) and desperately wish to make changes. In theory, I can do this thru our pupil council, but there is a slight hitch: THE COUNCIL IS BLOODY USELESS!
A resolution that is beneficial to the pupils hasn't been passed for more than two years. This is why I'm starting a Pupil's Union. I have a few seudo members onboard, but the Union needs to grow if it is to have an effect on the school.
Now here's the problem: the vast majority of pupils come from LOADED families, the type of people who were Thatcher's Bum-Chums in the 70's/80's. I need to convince them that the union is a good idea.

Please give any hints, opinions
or any feedback you like.

P.S. Please make any criticism constructive:D as this means alot to me.

Hi comrade,

I actually tried something similar when I was at school, I just left fairly recently. If you look across Europe at Spain in partiuclarly there is a nationally cohesive union for school students there and this serves as some form of model/inspiration for people in your own position I feel.

However, not to pour cold water on your plan but I would be somewhat weary of the concept of organising in such a way in a private school such as your own. I would see one of the core demands of a union for school students as being the nationalisation of private schools and comprehensive education for all. As you yourself have acknowleged the social base of your school is perhaps not the best place to be the bedrock of such an organisaiton.

However in many ways I would not let this stop you entirely. Such an organisation should not be limited to one school you should be looking to build an organisation initially accross several schools in the city/town where you live if you want to have any real influence.

Your first campaign may well be one for recognition but it really depends on the situation, please feel free to add me on msn or to e-mail me on [email protected] if you want anymore input from me or have anymore questions.
