So are there any real independant, maybe leftist, democratic nations in Polynesia? It seems to me like all countries are nothing but autonomous regions of larger European empires like France, Britain, and USA? Not that USA is European, but i do almost consider North-America Euopean, as i dont think the Americas exist in theire real form anymore... If you catch my drift...

But the reason im asking is that im planning a trip, and maybe moving there, and id like to see something real, and not just another colony by imperialistic places or something... Thanks

The independent countries are Samoa, Tonga, and Tuvalu. Samoa and Tuvalu are "democracies," but Samoa is highly conservative (look up "Fa'a Samoa") and Tuvalu is rapidly disappearing because of global warming. Tonga is an absolute monarchy under King Siaosi (George) Tupou V with a fairly strong democracy movement. There are no leftist politics as such in any of these places. There are pro-independence forces, some of them "leftist" in French Polynesia, but this is of course part of France.
