1st time in 1/8 finals since 1930, and no one expected it! We made it farther than italy! No one makes it to 1/8 as a fluke, the US team is legitimate!!!

they were very lucky to get through the qualifiers, its not exactly good to get through on teh same day Poland kick your arse.
Also mexico played crap, which i was totally disapointed in because i was so impressed with them against italy.

That's GREAT CI!! But what the hell does any of this useless crap have to do with socialism and capitalism? It's a waste of money, and the sport doesn't help anyone out. All this money spent on sponsoring could be feeding hungry children.

So CI.. do you think the United States Deserves to win?
Let me put it this way... Soccer practicly the only professional sport in America that does not get much attention. When it does, it's the women's soccer. (because the won the world cup)
Do you think a world cup win for the United States will change the way that America looks at this sport? If so Why?
If not...
Well...
GO GERMANY!!!

I think that a world cup victory for the USA would definitely change the way America looks at soccer.
1) Soccer is already growing in popularity, it is our #1 amature sport
2) America loves to be #1, if the US team won the world cup, the US people would celebrate the victory tremendously, it could be a real turning point for American soccer.

hey the better team won!!!......but cm'on you weeny CI, quit being so proud all the time of soomething that you have ABSOLUTLEY NO affiliation to in terms of helping build, support (economically + time/effort) and do anything period. I mean it is one thing to be happy, but to always post these threads in S vs C, is just sad.

I have an affiliation as an american, it is the US national team and they represent me and the rest of the american people.

I'll admit it! The U.S. soccer team is good! They outplayed Portugal and Mexico. They deserved to win.
Also CI we now have access to Chit Chat so we can post all the world cup threads we want there. :)

how exactly do they represent you? all americans are the same? they play footie like you do? Ross Reblegati of Canada won gold in the 98 winter olympics and he smoled pot, huge scandal with the IOC, not that FIS cared, but they suck too, anyways, does that mean that all Canadians are potheads, well, don't answer that one.
WHO FOKING CARES!

If the american soccer team represents the american people; they should be stealing the ball away from each other.

Ok you guys have a point there... Still women's soccer winning the world cup didn't do much for the sport here.
I hope that the Men's world cup can do more than that.
I may be a big Glasgow Celtic fan... however in the states I like Chicago Fire!

Well done USA. Hopefully we'll wipe out Brazil and you'll wipe out Germany and set the stange for a USA Vs England Final. PS. We'll win cos you'll never get past our defence, 1 goal conceeded in 4 games and we've got David Beckham.
Seriously though, some of that Mexican play was really breaking the rules like they pushed Lalas into the corner flag and trod on his calf or where that player was outside the box, one of the defenders puts a foot in the way and five seconds later the player falls over, and that high tackle with that fist where the Mexican got sent off.
But was that a handball by the US? I'd have to say it was because an Argantine player did that to us 4 years ago and to say otherwise would be hipocritical.
Capitalist Imperial
19th June 2002, 23:34
Yeah, that was a handball and the refs missed it, our luck. But I saw the mexican team with a lot of dirty play, like grinding cleats into US players legs, and flagrant fouls, there were a lot of mexican yellow/red cards as well as on the american side. And what about that intentional headbutt by that mexican player???!!! I know that at that point the US had pretty much won, but there is no place in sports for that!

I think its great that the U.S. soccer team is improving, or getting lucky, it doesnt matter either way. I love soccer, and here in the U.S. most people don't pay any attention to it. I am hoping that this will bring the magnificent sport of soccer into the spot light, its a really great sport..

I am wrong to say that you were BASHING the sport of soccer two weeks ago? That was you, right? Come on. You are probably a Yankees fan too. Love them Lakers. I hope you don't jump on MY Patriots bandwagon too.
The US played well. Is OK to say that considering I'm a socialist/leftist? Hell, I want the US to win. I hate the current state of affairs in America but hell I want them to win!!!!

It would be great if the world cup encouraged a larger fan base for the sport and therefore the sport would get more coverage.

Don't you ever accuse me of being a Lakers fan! I'm a die-hard Sacramento Kings fan, and they played much better basketball than the Lakers. The officiating in that series was a travesty!! Victory will be ours next year!

Personally the only sports I really watch are soccer and ice hockey. I'm a big fan of the New York Islanders.
I'm not too much into baseball, nor football, but will root for the Yanks and "Big Blue"=Giants..
Basket ball is a sport I'm afrade I just don't follow at all.

Basketball is probably the best sport to watch on TV, and a live game is so exciting!

I don't know it's just me probobly, but I find it rather dull. What I find great about soccer and hockey is that there goals are so rare. I find my self with beer in hand on the edge of me seat waiting for that goallie to make a wrong move and see the ball go wizzing past him into the net.

My vote's on Germany winning the next.
I hope the U$ don't make it any further, then they 'll think more of themselves then they already do! And then Bush is going to have ANOTHER annoying speech about his fuckin' "terrorism". An how the U$ players came to Korea (or Japan) cops side by side, as purcausion for any "terrorist attacks" Just stop with this exagurating ass kissing buisness about terrorism. (Just have to say this) don't get me wrong, not ALL Americans are bad.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GO KOREA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I think the US have played well, at the moment they are odds on 150-1 to win, that's the same as south korea. Brazil are favourites, and then come the fabulous England :) I think we will beat the brazillians tommorow, USA will beat germany too. I can't see the US winning when they have England to contend with !

I watch football when England play if it isn't on Sky or something and field hockey is good to watch as well. And I watch canoeing when it's at the olympics even though the way they cover it on TV is shite and it's much better to watch in real life.
I have to say that i've never seen basketball on TV but there isn't much of a following over here.

good for the US, hopefully this will build up even greater interest in football, and hopefully amerika will get there heads into this great international game, and quit wasting their time with sports that have turned into busin-sports like baseball that is plaugued with contoroversy and strike

Personally I find baseball THE most boring, unispiring sporting event to watch. any event where you can be out of shape, chew tobacco and make millions is a joke, this is of my opinion.
