Hi guys, I am kinda new here and just wanting to see if you could recommend a rock (not punk) band. Something like RATM or what not.

Thanks!

Rise Against are, but they are less revolutionary; and more concerned with romantic ideals and environmental/humanitarian issues.

Didn't he say "not punk"?

The closest thing to RATM I've found is a band called "Raised Fist". Check out the "Dedication" album, and listen to the song "Illustration of Desperation".

As for just being a left wing band, you should always check out Fugazi (even though they are sort of punk)

KMFDM! (especially "World War Three" album--obvious political overtones).

Levellers, New Model Army, Angelic Upstarts, Redskins were all good back during Maggie Thatcher's bad old days. In the U.S. Dropkick Murphys and Black 47 reflect my James Connolly bias.

There is a lot of punk in this thread.

The International Noise Conspiracy might be not-punk enough for you, though. If you like bands like The Hives, you'll probably love the (I)NC.

Also, State Radio, if you like reggae/ska with some rock and blues mixed in.

Do they have to sing in English? Otherwise you could have Banda Bassotti (italian) or Les Partisans (french) for example:)

WW3 was a lot better than I had expected, just another Bush-bash but it actually came across really well and the political messages were more than just about Bush being an idiot. Although some could argue that the song Moron is potentially exactly that ;)

against me sucks now
but if folk and anarcho count, which it looks like it does, then mischief brew, rudimentary peni, crass, conflict, poision girls, AK-47, MDC.

and Spazz and Charles Bronson, gotta love power violence :D

They're always thrown into "electronica" but they rock anyway.

Oh well. I know it's an overdone theme but you aren't seriously disputing that Bush is an idiot?
Regardless it's put in an articulate manner and if you think it's just Bush, you're kidding yourself. He's not entirely unique in certain ways as a leader.
How many other albums have you heard? Having listened to pretty much every KMFDM album it's easy to expect something more.
Just because Bush happens to be an idiot doesn't mean that the song is solely about him.

Manic Street Preachers, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, some Ten Years After.

Check out the song No More Heroes by The Stranglers.

The problem with most rock bands is that they only have a few "revolutionary" songs.
