i thought this was a top notch movie;especially interesting for skins. It dealt with the National Front and BNP of england and how racism infiltrated the skinhead scene. It is based during the falkland wars, so it has a nice political backdrop. I suggest everyone see this movie (bittorrent it). any one else see it?

American history X blows. It's Hollywood trash. I wanna see This Is England though, I've heard excellent reviews. I wonder how old it's gonna make me feel :D

This is England kind of sucked in my opinion, I been a skinhead for a little while and I just don't think it was that great.

The only thing that made it worth buying and watching every now and then is that it actually shows real skinheads. I think that if the movie had had the same story but the characters were just average working class kids (and not skins) then it would've been shitty. Just, as a story, it wasn't that great to me. And most of my friends agreed, while it was going on they were all into it, but as it started to end everybody was like "meh, at least it had good music".

i thought it was a really cool movie, and unlike other "skinhead" movies, this one protrays skinheads as something more than Nazi gorillas on roids. i actually considered shaving down after watching it, since at the same time i was also reading a lot on skinhead culture. but i never did.

Being an actual Skinhead from the 80's American History X was disgusting on every level. See even though there where alot of WP skins in the 80's there where also alot of non racist skins as well. That did not matter though in the eyes of the media who did nothing but capitalize off the WP Skins , and further perpetuate the image as all Skinheads as being racist. And yes things like the Geraldo Rivera show , The Morton Downy Jr Show, The Jerry Springer Show and eventually Hollywood producing movies about Skinheads Like American History X, it was all designed to portray all the skinheads as Nazi's. I was there in the 80's I know what was the truth and how the media and Hollywood vilified the Skinheads. Another thing about your American History X movie. It actually influenced kids to go out an be Nazi's, along with Romper Stomper and the media didn't care as long as they could capitalize off it.

i never figured out what kids saw to make them nazis in that movie. it was not pro-nazi. the worst is how every one brings that up movie up when i wear the boots and braces, and how everyone looks sketched out on the subway.

Meantime is by far one of my favorite Skinhead movies. Guess what? It's not a movie about Skinheads. Garry Oldman plays a Skinhead and is kinda one of the main charectors. Even though I do not agree with his politics in the movie,he plays probably one of the most convincing Skinheads I have ever seen on film.

As to your post earlier.

It is a shame that American History X influenced kids to become WP Fuckwits. Thing is though , IMO By Hollywood exploiting the problem, they made it worse.

i couldnt agree more! however, kids, just like a jedi, can be brought back from the dark side! :laugh: But seriously, kids can be convinced otherwise, so we can win back the the WP kids if we try. but yes American History X did some bad, but i still thought it was a good movie as movies go. This is england is still better in my mind.

It's kinda interesting to see how different films have tried to depict this same theme, yet it's only really This is England that went beyond the stereotypes of Boneheads and explored the fact there is more to Skinhead culture than simply the racist twats.

In comparison, with the semi-glorification of the machismo of Boneheads in films like American History X and Romper Stomper, you can see why see with stupid people would become racist skinheads.
