There seems to be an assumption that schools act only when teachers are victims of cyber bullying and not when such cruel behavior is aimed at other students. This is not true. However, cases of students bullying other students would be handled discreetly to try to avoid exposing the victims further.
The internet is the coward's forum (check this message board now and then) where every vicious, ill-considered thought can find a space and an audience. Contrary to what some posters have said, words do hurt. They hurt you personally and can undermine your position to the point where you cannot do your job effectively.
Kids who are victims of cyberbullying (or any bullying) are often battered only by words and jeers--not fists--but they suffer immensely. Teachers do too. It's not just being thin-skinned. It's trying to function when you wonder if your every action and word is going to be taken out of context and used to ridicule and victimize you.
So, if teaching becomes a kind of popularity contest, just how effective will the schools your kids attend be? It's not a trivial matter and it's very difficult to deal "
Just wondered if anyone here has been a victim of cyberbullying?
I was at the forum when i used to play computer games, I got flamed, I got insulted, verbally abused, called autistic, once i posted a pic of myself on a post your pic topic there and people took off my head with photoshop i think, posted it onto a naked streaker's body, and posted it on the forum and all over the internet. Even made videos of me with my head posted onto different bodies, claiming that you should call this number because 'retards' and autistic people like me needed help.
Then, someone from that forum msn'ed me the other day and asked how I was doing, i said much better since i left that forum" then today I visit it in secret and find that he posted our conversation on the forum and used it to ridicule me and say im obssessed and it runs my life. well Duhh! cyberbullying is damaging. Of course i cant forget it easily. I had no idea he would do that though. I dont even talk to anyone on my msn from that forum because they all take my words out of context and flame me now. even some of them who i thought were my friends do it to me.
Has this ever happened to anyone else here?

There is a trend among people who hang around in the internet all day of being douchebags.
There are some reasons I can think of:
1. On the internet you are anonymous, therefore you can post all kinds of stuff you couldn't say in real life. Perhaps a movement in the other direction, where people who choose to participate in discussion will have to be more revealing of their own identity could be a solution.
2. People who post a lot on the internet is maybe more likely to be the type who is not too good at treating other people well.
3. The culture on a lot of sites is often arrogant, macho, etc. I think this is related to the first and second points.

Now to address the topic at hand. Yes I have been mouthed off to on the internet, especially a long time ago when I was new to computers. People have hurled all kinds of insults my way, it's kinda 'par for the course' that even though a site may request posters not to flame , bully ect. There is going to be some of that on some level.
Revleft is actually one of the most tame sites I have been on. That's actually one of the reasons I like it plus the wealth of information that is actually presented and exchanged is very good. Thing that kills me about cyber bullying is it is often the case that the person doing it really does not have the bottle to back it up. I don't say that to sound as a bad ass or anything but the facts are that I've been on my own most of my life. I have streets smarts (as I've actually lived on the streets) and though I have not fought in years now , I can hold my own and have done exactly that on several occasions.
Yeah, cyber bullies got the gift of a silver spoon in their internet mouth and they can gang up and make fun of whoever but the fact remains I and several others have actual life experience and skills you better hope to hell you have some day especially if you get thrown into a situation where you need them, cause trust me rep points mean squat in the projects:D

I have a feeling RL people know what its like to be different and be ridiculed because of their uniqueness. I love this site because I find they are so accepting. They even like OI'ers like tomk and others if they are nice people RL will accept them.
although Ive always lived with my parents I guess you could say I've also been on my own for most of my life. Because even myarents were not real allies when I had to deal with my problems. I've had to become socially smart, as a result I've become a good judge of character in life and can judge people. My parents were there economically but havent been there for anything else much that I needed. So you could say ive been on my own as well.

This is true. Alot of us know what is like to stand by the politics we have and be degraded and mocked and humiliated on every level because of them. Revleft goes out of it's way to accept us unique people and especially makes those who might not be as well versed in different aspects of politics as others feel welcome. This is important because it gives people not only opportunity but a chance to learn and discuss things along the way.

I can understand and appreciate that . I know what it is like to be alone and have to deal with some really difficult things. Thing is though in the long run it's good you had to go through that because the most important person you will ever have in your life is yourself. There is not a problem that life will present that if you trust in yourself you will not over come.

Things changed since I arrived.
We're taking my boat together to Cuba and she and I will lord over the Communists there with pots of money and freedom and all of that.
She loves the mink I sent her and is happy she switched sides to Capitalism.
BTW: she's changed her name from Rosa to Paris. So it "Paris" Luxemburg89 to you guys. ;)

Now, for the first time I can understand why people want to be Communists--Capitalism breaks up so much true love. :(
