I am writing an essay on WTO, and I need some dirt. Help? :)

I did this a few years back.
Go to the website of the WTO.
It's actually really...disturbing.

Also, check out the mock WTO sites (run by The Yes Men).
Or similar groups.

I'm sure you'll be able to find a lot information concerning the resistance the WTO faces around the world on Indymedia. [ www.indymedia.org ]

They'll have a lot of info on previous WTO protests and the numbers of arrests, injured, and so on.

Comrade, one thing you might want to bring into is the important arguments of Chang in his book kicking away the ladder. Basically he argued that countries that are developed today developed behind tariff barriers before raising the banner of free trade. This was because when their industries were just developing they needed protection from foreign competition until they were strong and developed enough to compeete. Now, these countries which industrialised behind high tariff barriers are telling developing countries they have to embrace free trade. There is a review of his book here (http://eh.net/bookreviews/library/0777)

If you wanna more info or to me explain it a bit better pm me and perhaps we could talk on msn.

If a country is using slave labor or regularly murders trade unionists, and your country doesn't want to compete with goods produced in that fashion, the WTO could say "No, no, you can't put up trade barriers. That's protectionism, gasp, heavens no!"

So you get a race to the bottom. In order for your country to compete, your own companies may have to resort to slave labor or murdering trade unionists.

[Of course, if you really cared about not just your own people, but people in general, you would be working to overthrow the government that allows slave labor and the murder of trade unionists.]

I think its important to note that at this point, because of the no globals movement, the WTO is dead in the water.

Rosa Lichtenstein (http://www.revleft.com/vb/member.php?find=lastposter&t=74271) is a “moderator” which means she will threaten to shut you out of this site if you persist in arguing with here. That is why she is able to talk nonsense without sanction. The best thing is to pretend that she is of some consequence and talk round her.

What nonsense are you referring to? User names don't usually stick in my mind when I'm reading these forums, but I didn't see anything strange in this thread at least: http://www.revleft.com/vb/global-meltdown-t74321/index.html
