While some might argue that the movie puts cops in too-good a light, I have always seen politics as relative to the situation at hand. Alliances rise and fall in response to overarching, objective circumstances, and so if a police force is truly on the side of the working and unemployed people in a not-too-fictional Detroit, then so be it -- it's worth watching.
I think this movie is especially topical given the American Axle labor struggle going on in Detroit right now -- that's no fiction.
