Hey i have a question for you all.

What would you do if you found out one of your best friend was a Bnp nationalist and he admired John Tyndall, Ian stuart and others.

I have a friend like this

One of my best friends in High School was a nationalist skinhead, I couldn't give a toss, I loved him for who he was not for his political ideals.

Im only looking for an answer on the Internet im not trolling. I have better things to do then waste my time trolling on Internet forums.

nationalism in itself isn't that bad tbh, they are probably misguided anyways if they were nationalist at my age,

but if they were fascist i would not be friends with them, they are obviously mis guided for this and i would try to bring them round but wouldn't be friends with them while they still held such views

Give Antifa his details?

Seriously, I think it depends on whether he's an actual nationalist ior if hes just doing it to be rebellious.

The majority of young nationalists are indeed just trying to fume out some energy and get involved, be it the wrong ideology. I have a couple far right wing friends, we just tend to keep politics not a topic for discussion.

it not politics though its outlook/view point and how can you be friends with people who dont think that everybody is equal,

i had a turkish mate who used to say rascist stuff, so i started to take the piss coz he was turkish and he soon realised how shit his views were

If you're not a troll, explain to him why the BNP are wrong and why he shouldn't support them. If you are a real 'anti-fash'then it shouldnt take much for us to explain to you why that is.

If you are a troll, piss off.

thb who cares if this is a 'troll' i can spare the finger energy to type out a sentence i dont think it would be a great coup for fascism that the one who asked the question is a wanker (that is if they are)

Tell him that what he is doing is very wrong and that he have to quit his activities and if he will not do that he will have a big problem and broken bones.

I don't think this can ever be a universal matter, personal relationships are, well, personal!

Don't let some internet forum tell you how to arrange your life and how far you go in your ideology.

I do not have a lot of problems regarding this subject myself as nationalism, fascism en racism attracts the kind of people I do not want to be friends with in the first place, but who knows, maybe you can have a lot of fun with this guy and who am I or any other person to tell you this is impossible regarding your political and social ideals? Just do what you think is right, as long as you personally are happy. :redstar2000:

(Oh how I love those forum smileys!)

I totally agree that you shouldn't let a bunch of strangers tell you what to do in your personal life. Not to suggest that I in any way approve of fascism, but if you're interested in trying to bring more people into the movement this guy might be more receptive than your standard bourgeois liberal or free-market Tory. I haven't done a concerted study of BNP ideology, but reactionary parties are also discontent with the current state of affairs. In his essay on Galeano's theory of populism, Zizek suggests that we can see in populist racist movements a form of modern class consciousness, even if it is a false consciousness of an unusually repellent sort. I bet if you had an in depth conversation with him (if it is a 'him') you could demonstrate at least a number of ways in which immigration is not really the problem, but is a result of global capitalism and neo-imperialism systematically forcing subordinate economic roles on other countries. Additionally you could show how cuts in real wages and social services at home are the result of the domestic application of neo-liberal austerity programs. But then again you don't know me and I'm talking out of my ass, so do what you think is best.

i would not be friends with rascists or fascists,

why would you, he could be a spot on guy but he is obviously a prick, would you be mates with Hitler coz he was a right laugh?

My best friend since I was 16 is quite a racist. That doesn't change that we can have fun and enjoy each others' company, and I think the fact that we can still be friends while I militantly oppose his viewpoints is a promising thing for humanity. If I were to count him off as a friend on such grounds, I may as well be as bad as those who live up to racist agendas.

In 2005, I made out with a girl whom I later saw was quite the right-wing one.

i have experience of this myself, one of my friends is indeed racist and tends to veer towards bnp. we are good friends but we do argue on political points, i abhor fascism and have tried to get him to change his views but to no avail such is human nature. its a tricky position to be in as i can see both sides of the argument.

i have a friend, not very close though, that he claims to be nationalist. He is in small age so i dont see him as an enemy for now. When we meet eachother we have our jokes and have a nice day.By the time that he will grow up he will abandoned nationalism i think!

hull is full of wankers though, no offence i think you are a highly sound person but Hull has non-typically large build up of fascists, conservatives etc..
especially for a 'working class area'

a prick from my school in te year above went to Hull uni to do politics as it was the only one (at the time maybe still) to only cover British politics, what a cock eh..

Yep, there are a lot of wankers in Hull. I've never come across any fascists but many people ARE secretly racist, especially with the recent influx of Kurds and Africans. It's not Conservative though - Hull East, West and North have been Labour dominated areas for nearly a century. It's the posh areas on the edge of the city that vote Tory scum.

And my A level politics course is only BRITISH politics like you said, which is shit and why I am failing in it. I really couldn't give a toss about the House of Lords.

Still, we have an fantastic footy team. Up the tigers!

Hull is the only major european city to never have a top flight football team, so not that great no matter how well you are going, Carlisles automatic promotion to the Championship on the cards that is great and we have been top flight (1975?) so we are obviously better, anyoo

Labour isnt conservative? coulda fooled me... i know what ya mean though

feel lucky my school didnt even have a politics course at A level so next year im doing it at uni with no other class experience,

don't sweat about it. As long as they're not hurting anyone, changing their politics doesn't really do anything constructive. It's rarely even possible.

If you'd like to talk about it with them politely, there's probably little harm in that. Be cautious, though; talking about religion and politics are great ways to ruin a friendship.

I have a similar acquaintance. She's a transwoman in her 50s. She's a Tory, thinks David Cameron and Margaret Thatcher are wonderful. She's anti-feminist, biphobic, believes the 1950s to be the "best era."

I have spoken to her about her contradictions but she seems to be stuck in cognitive dissonance. She's unappreciative of progressive movements that support labour rights, women's rights, and GLBT rights. Yet she wants to be in the 1950s, yet they would have locked her away in a mental hospital back then.
