I was not sure which section to post this in so i chose Politics.
What are your opinions on the group/non-group labeled Anonymous. Whether or not they actually have a structure and leaders is beyond importance but in my opinion anonymous are; Just a bunch of nihilistic petit-bourgeois children who are a reflection of their life. They have nothing to care about, so they care about nothing. Some of the things Anonymous has claimed to say was that they have no morality and no pity. More likely than not, none of them have ever suffered a day in their lives.

I don't think you could consider 'anonymous' a political movement... Outside of Bill O'Reilly labelling them "far left", I don't think there's much evidence lending itself to that...

Their stance against scientology is affable in my humble opinion, which I'm sure is shared by the vast majority of the board... But really, I don't think they hold much precedent above that...

They certainly pose no possibility of influencing a revolutionary climate... I don't know how closely related anonymous/4chan are as I'm not overly au fait with either... but from what I see on 4chan it tends to be outlandishly racist/sexist/reactionary full stop...

No, nothing like that. My younger brother seems to idolize these Anonymous hackers though.

"Anonymous" is just an online community. They go on 4chan and post pictures and troll forums and make jokes and every so often they'll play a big prank that somehow, against the laws of science, reason, and the will of god himself, works (e.g. the Scientology protests).

Anonymous isn't about revolution or politics. Just about the lulz.

So don't think too much of them, or the image they have. They're pretty much harmless off the internet.

I think we could learn from such movements.

Anonymous shows that it is possible for a decentralised movement utilising several different nods in an almost holonic way to bring down and irritate political opponents. We should look at them and see how their strategy is working.

They have no strtaegy, because to have a strategy they would have to be organised, and they are not. Just a community of people, who denounce others who even claim to represent anonymous. They have absolutely no structure and are building no movement. Just a bunch of nihilists who don't attempt to accomplish much more than personal gratification

Not in a traditional way. They operate on an extremely decentralized level with no leadership or hierarchy, but the ability to all act in unison nonetheless. So this shows some level of organization. Or do you think coordinated DDoS attacks, black faxes, pranks calls, etc just happen on their own?

Such a movement just needs an opportunity to spark a fire. We need regressors as well.

who is Anonymous?

what does "holonic" mean? As far as I can see, it's not a real word. Unless you've made it up?

Anonymous is a movement which has attacked anything, now most recently the Church of Scientology. It is spawned from 4chan.

Holonic systems are systems based on individual cells which are integrating with each-other in a spontaneously organised way.

Everyone who claims that the anti-Scientology demos were "just for the lulz" is retarded and wrong. I'd say a small portion of people who showed up at the demos were actually members (if that's what you'd call them) of Anonymous. The demos were advertised extensively on the streets and in universities by way of posters and flyers highlighting the bizarre and irrational nature of the cult as well as some of the many wrongs that it has committed. The only relation the flyers had to Anonymous was that some of them said things like "We are Anonymous" at the bottom. There was no other mention to Anonymous or 4chan. The posters urged people to protest against Scientology for legitimate reasons, not because a bunch of internet trolls thought it would be funny.

When will Anonymous start protest against the protestors?

Originally, "Anonymous" was simply anyone who posted on 4chan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4chan) without entering a name. It was thought that the quality of posts would be more important than the identity of the posters. An age-old in-joke was that "Anonymous" was one poster, or a collective hivemind.

Then people suddenly realized the possibility to meet in real life. It happened before on anime cons and the like, but the Scientology thing was really sweet. It probably won't have any long-term implications (at least, they won't merge into the IMT, sorry Glick!), and the focus on scientology (by negatively comparing it to mainstream religions, as if those are fine and dandy) doesn't help much. But it's still pretty cool.

Edit: of course, I'm lying. I'll tell you the truth now, Glick. They're actually a group of domestic terrorists. They are hackers on steroids. http://youtube.com/watch?v=DNO6G4ApJQY

Not even a group of people. Just unrelated, unlinked, not-in-contact people who don't put in a username, coming from 4chan.

It means nothing. It is merely a bunch of retards who like cheap el-oe-els.

I think the concept of anonymous is pretty interesting, and it's absolutely hilarious the way the media reacted to their "threats". I wonder if the concept could be turned politically revolutionary, or if the protection of being anonymous would invite too many jackasses and provocateurs.

The media likes to snatch up the "anonymous" tag and fool people into thinking it is an organisation of some sort although it's really just a bunch of people from 4chan and related communities, 711chan, partyvan, etc.
