We have had this post a long time ago and I think its time we
should have it again. We have had many new members to the site, as well cappies as commies... so lets start.

Your favourite commies and cappies, from the board.

Everybody just writes his favourite commie(s) and cappie (s)
down here including why.

Some of my favorites but not necessarily my most favorite.

Favorite Commies;

Roger Waters - Noted socialist but best known for his involvement in Pink Floyd. His solo stuff is awful but I like his pre-Final Cut work. He is personally quite repulsive. Ask Dave Gilmour.

Leon Trotsky - Of course I have little agreement with his politics and war crimes, nevertheless I do find him witty and easy to understand.

George Orwell - Often pegged as a Socialist, very lucid thoughts on the nature and future of totalitarianism.

Tito - Very colorful character, raised a lot of hell with his partisians.

Lt. General Mikhail Kalishnikov - Interesting inventor of the AK series rifles.

Marshal Sergei(?) Zhukov - Chief architect of the Soviet victory during WWII. Personally a very honorable and decent man. It's a shame what happened later.

Cappies;

Friedrich von Hayek - Absolutely the best economic philosopher of the 20th cent.

Jimmy Page - The recalcitrant engineer of Led Zeppelin's sound and guitar wizard. Very much a capitalist.

Plato - The Republic What more do you want?

Ronald W Reagan - "Mr. Gorbechev, tear down this wall!"

The Byzantines - Innovators of many features of capitalism such as share holding, investment banking and commodities trading. Created one of the greatest civilizations in history and probably saved Western Culture from total annihilation.

Bill Gates - Need I say anything?

favourite capitalists:
richard branson- genuinly has built himself up from nothing with good ideas rather than exploitation and back stabbing (although this has probobly had a part to play). and seems willing to help the poor too.

bill gates- has at least said that one day, he will give away his fortune.

i don't particularly like these guys, but as capitalists go, there ok.

commies:
vladimir lenin- the founder of the worlds first socialist state. as i was born in lenins hometown, you basically have to love lenin. you can't walk 200 yards in ulyanovsk without bumping into a lenin statue. a true spokesman of the working class and one of the greatest men of all time.

karl marx- the founder of the whole thing, need i say more.

yuri andropov- my board namesake. a true marxist who, if he would of lived, would of led USSR to prosperity, i have no doubts about that. i actually had the honor of meeting him on two occasians during the later years of his life. very down to earth, he was head of kgb and i was at the very bottom of the ladder and he spoke to me as an absolute equal. a great guy.

che quevara- was the lenin of latin america. would of done anything to bring communism to the people of south america and to bring equality to the working class.

Che Guevara - goes without saying
Tito - respect to him for not following Stalin
Trotsky - very intelligent man

CAPPIES I DON'T WANNA STRANGLE:

Lech Walesa - he liberated Poland and was an electrician at the same time. Good on ya son!!!
Nelson Mandela - a hero. Nuff said. Fought for what he wanted for 40 years...I couldn't do that.
Ghandi - the man who invented passive resistance.
Martin Luther King - established some kinda racial equality in America and died for his beliefs.

I like all leftists on the board apart from the Stalinists, broadly speaking. A few are come across like sadistic macho idiots (ahem, CheG), but I'm sure butter wouldn't melt in your collective mouth really...

The only cappie I don't dislike is Ernest, cos he appears to have some kinda intelligence and doesn't blanketly support America...

Favorite "commie":

vox. No doubt about that.

Favorite "capitalist":

Hmm...Solz has done some great work since he showed up here. Except I would argue with his placement of the Republic as a "capitalist" work. It comes so far before these lines were drawn that it's hard to say, but you can see the origins of both schools of thought in the kallipolis. I'd even say that it tends more to the communist. Aristotle's Politics is a little more pro-private property.

And Ernest Everhard is a dickhead.

Ok... I'll be nice for a change... the Cappie I like best is Agusto/E. Everhard.

Yea I second that. Augostos can sometimes be anoying, when he chooses to only address certain very selective parts of an argument and ingore the ones that are going no where fast for him. But he isn`t as thick as most of the reactionary numb skulls that drift through these parts.

Solz also seems like he has some potential, mostly due to a pleasant writting style. Though his arguments are often far fetched.
