hey Everyone,
here is my situation, I work at a shitty job, but what are you going to do, until I get get enough money and get on the road again. I just completed university and like millions of other privelaged kidz, I have recieved a degree and got a job, although, it took a while to find one, and I am totally working for the man, anyways. I was hired by a staffing agency that inturn was hired by the company I work for to hire me and thirty other people, in total there are roughly 40 people agency and 15 people that were hired directly.
The reason (I suppose) they go through the agency is that they keep the employee-employer relationship at a distance, the agency comes in once a week to drop off our cheques, if we are sick we call the agency, if there are any problems we call the agency. No one ever calls this agency, I see them once a week to pick up the paydirt.
The reason I write this post, and if you have read this far, thank you, it is going somewhere -- is that an employee hired by the company directly gets paid a 1.50 more an hour, that 1.50 goes directly to the staffing agency, multiply that by 40 employees over 35-45 hrs a week, and this staffing company that all they do is administer a computer test to see if we are somewhat competent, and then come by once a week to drop off the pay slips is making around 7,000 a month.....for doing nothing.
The main reason, the company I work for employs the agency is that we are then considered part time employees, we recieve no benefits, there is no chance to move up in the company (if you really wanted to?) but for those that do cannot, unless the company decides to hire you on, but due to a special contract the two parties hold, they aren't allowed to hire any of the staffing agency members. There are numerous cases where a mother who has worked there for years hasn't been hired by the company, let alone given a raise by the staffing agency.
My question is what suggestions and or experiences have you guys had or can think up of where I can fight this bullshit, starting some kind of union??? I don't know, I am just starting to work on this and felt like maybe some of you guys and girls could help me out. well I thank you for any suggestions!
