I watched it years ago, during one of my Soviet film univ courses. Only saw it once and have forgotten most about it
but i think what i remember was that is was meant to show the soviet collective farm workers as happy and prosperous in the collective farms of the USSR.
essentially some kind of soviet stalinist propaganda thing of the collective farms during the stalin years.

What? It was made in the 90's by Mihhalkov and was about the time right before the start of the purges. The man character is a retired, civil war hero, "Komdiv" meaning division commander. Basically a beautifully done film which the civil war hero ends up being killed by the NKVD as a result of the purge. Its anti-stalinist and whether your a pro or anti-stalinist it will most likely be entertaining and is really a movie with more than profit in mind. (at least i believe so). Thumbs up from me.
