Venezuelan Socialist strongman ordered the military to slaughter demonstrators protesting his socialist policies with tanks and machineguns and now the audio tapes are out proving his guilt. The military leaders can be heard on the tapes expressing their disgust. Luckily for the populace, the military would not submit to his murderous plans and replaced him instead.

This is further proof that socialism cannot deal with any level of dissent without resorting to violence.

Again, so what? You've obviously neglected, or just don't care, what kind of "opposition" there was.

First, the opposition against Chavez. These were generally white, upper to middle class folks (this is documented by photos) who were supported by the military and the puppet trade unions.

Second, there is mounting evidence of the obvious. The coup was supported, funded, and likely planned by foreign intelligence (read: CIA).

Third, Chavez was resorted to power by a revolt of poor, lower class Venezuelans. Not the faction of the military which supported Chavez.

Considering the opposition to Chavez, their methods, their leaders (all of whom were SOA graduates), their agenda, etc... it's probably a blessing that he was restored.

Finally, Chavez is more just a populist. I respect him though. He has made some very impressive reforms and has made a number of bold moves in defense of the poor. However, this Socialist populism will, I suspect, be ultimately futile unless the trend continues throughout ALL of South and Central America.

How can I not love a guy who pisses off part of the military because he uses them to hand out food to the poor?

Chavez is a tyrant dictator to his people. It is a real shame that the coup couldn't hold him off. Solz, I salute you for bringing attention to his crimes, hopefully the lefties may start to think about things now.

Actually following his first electoral victory Chavez shutdown venezuela's legislature and court system. He then proceeded to change the constitution of venezuela so that it would be more favorable towards the executive branch. So he hardly won "fair and square", it's pretty disengenious when he states his wish that the opposition would respect the constitutional process, when he has hardly done so himself.

you guys are clueless. I lived in Venez. for the past 18 months. you haven't a clue what is going on down there. you would think that the people on THIS web page wouldn't be so easily fooled. Haven't you guys been paying any attention? this is just another attempt by yet another latin american oligarchy together with the us oil suckers to destabilize and eventually overthrow the socialist/populist twice democratically elected president.

Hugo Chavez Frias is the best thing to happen to Venezuela since Bolivar and Zamora.

Get your head out and stop reading your local dribble newspapers. Get the facts.

in just a few days my website will be up .... come and get informed abit.

Lacha, you are the clueless one. Chavez is the worst thing that has happened to Venezuela. He has brought nothing but empoverishment to the country. He now has lost most of the support in Venezuela and only stays in power through the use of force and thorugh alliances with the terrorist guerrillas of Colombia such as Farc.

Ernest Everhard,

The people of Venezuela voted for that constitution he created, with over 60% of the vote. So he did win 'fair and square.'

Concerned,

He lost most of his support, which is still higher than all the opposition leaders in the country, because his Communist & Socialist party coalition left him because either he was too radical or not radical enough. With that, most of the country left him for their party loyalty. This goes to show that most of Venezuela is a leftist society. :)

Hey,
The only reason that the usa gives a blind fuck about venezuala anyway is that they supply 1/5 of the worlds oil. Chavez was DEMOCRATICALLY elected. You fucking cappies would argue with anything!
