Enoch Powell "Rivers of Blood"

Who saw this programme? For those who don't know. In the 1960s, a prominant politician 'Enoch Powell' made one of the most famous speeches in the UK since Churchill's war speeches. It was called "Rivers of blood" and in it he claimed that Immigration would destroy the UK and lead to endless fighting and racial tension.

Did anyone watch it? I did, I think it was absolutely fucking disgusting. If anything it attempted to proove him right by showing constant footage of the Brixton riots and the 7/7 combings...

Yeah I saw it and yeah it was a fucking disgrace. What the hell are the BBC trying to prove by airing this "white season"? Are they trying to justify Powell's speech or something? They're making it out as though the 7/7 bombings and race riots such as Brixton and St Paul's are an everyday occurence, caused by the faults of multi-culturalism. any politically confused people that watched this or who watch any other of the white season are very likely to move further to the right. This is going to be pretty damaging to the left in Britain i think.

We are going to have to tighten up and get some serious work done at least balance out this bollocks the bbc are churning out and i have a feeling that unless they or another station does some other 'black' type season or something similar we might see alot more of this sort of thing.

The rivers of blood speech is how most conservatives in britain feel anyway; its doing nothing other than showing how the majority of English feel, incredibly Xenophobic and fearfull of losing their 'culture' of Drinking and morris dancing.

i watched it, got pretty aggravated at parts to however as a whole it was laughable. But yeah I agree with Wat, I definaly got a feeling that it was more pro rather than anti Enoch.

I too watched that hackjob of a programme. Kids, when the BBC starts bleeding crocodile tears for the white working-class, get nervous: they don't care about the "white working class", they just like dividing potential enemies within. It was atrocious how they effectively said "Enoch was Right" and multicultrualism is wrongm when pointing to the 7/7 attacks, totally ignoring British involvement in Iraq as well as the Middle East and the former colonies at large. I mean hell, it was the British capitalists decision to take on cheaper labour from places such as the West Indies in the first place, it's what they've always done.

What shocked me about the programme was how many dockers were behind Powell at the time: roughly 1,000 people. Of course, this isn't representative of the whole working class, but it goes to show how easily it's fractured.
