What are some good materials to take with you?
Such as money, clothing etc.
Im 15, I live in Arkansas, and I plan on heading northeast.
I have 28 hours to decide my course of action.
Also, I heard getting caught can get you sent to a foster home etc., but not sure on this though, dont care for the most part.

You have no place to go.
You need that first, or youre gonna be on the streets outside.
That would suck.
Why are you running away?
Are you being abused?

I plan on going to an abandoned house, then staying there while I make some money to get a bus ticket.
Mainly to get away from family. My mother and her boyfreind fight alot, to the point I wont go anywhere with them, (I sat here typing whilst he was screaming about how he would beat the shit out of her if she tried to leave) and then my dad and his wives were the same. I then found out my dad was a child molester and is in jail at the moment. So I feel the need to get away from everything. Family included.
My story may not be horrid or anything, but its what I want to do.

Sounds like a bad idea, especially without a plan. Without a plan and good gear you're fucked.
First you should address why you feel it's so necessary to leave home.

A plan is the first thing you must get, right now you will be alone and could end up being killed, raped, or something on the lines of that. Wait draw out a plain and make sure you have a good place to go. You have any family that you like?

Good luck comrade, I did the same when I was a year younger than you and ended up in a shelter.
I'm not sure what the laws are in America. Perhaps you could PM Debora Aro, because Debora used to do work in this kind of field and would know a lot more than us.

How do you plan on making this money? You aren't going to be able to get a job. I advise you stay away from the northeast at this time because it is still very cold. I suggest if you are really serious about this, have a plan and make sure to stay smart on the streets. Overall, it sounds like a pretty bad decision though. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

If you're serious about this, this (http://guide2homelessness.blogspot.com/) page has some good advice for surviving homeless.

dude, please dont run away. being homeless is horrible, much worse than having parents that shout a lot. there are a lot of creepy people that will prolly want your youthful flesh out there too.

Bad idea. Bad idea. Very fucking bad idea.
I really really sympathise with your situation but this is a very bad idea. If you are really in trouble, call the DSS.

maybe right now you shouldn't run away. Right now you should GET HELP. Call anyone who can help: a priest, a relative, a friend, god even a cop. If you run away you're bound for some hard times: the NE is cold, windy, and not the best place for a homeless teenager.
Just get help, and get it soon. I know a lot of people who have been in situations like yours, and the only way to solve it is to get and older person on your side.
but, if you need to run away, just make sure you're smart about it. This country has no national healthcare, and so if you get hurt you're out of luck.
and good luck, whatever route you choose. i hope everything ends up ok

Meh, I tried to think it through.
I decided not to go (This thread helped my decision, mainly with things I was too clouded to think about), but I did talk to my parents.
Im moving out, and living with the grandparents now. So in the end, things work itself out.
Thanks for all those who helped.

It's good that you've found a solution like that. Are your grandparents chill?

Very.
I grew up with them almost all my life, but then I moved out, around a year ago.
Hearing them ramble on about the "Red Scare" is interesting also. :D
I was happy that we were able to come to a peaceful conclusion.

Some things to consider about being homeless as I was myself. Some make it and some don't. If you wind up in a tough urban area like I did your greatest ally will be friends , I'm serious that "safety in numbers mentality" is true. squatting is not as easy in America as other countries. A well know squat just got raided awhile back in New York, I'm referring to C squat some of you might know the place. You have to realize that when your homeless people will exploit that as you are vulnerable. You gotta learn street smarts. There (as mentioned) will be people that will use you and try and take advantage of you in just about every way possible. First thing, get to know the place your going. Find out about it as much as you can. Think ahead, You wanna bring stuff but realize this, you might lose everything on the streets. It is actually best to travel as light as possible. If you lug around a heavy pack , it advertises the situation you are in and it is hard to defend yourself with a big pack on. Have a way out. The worst is when your in over your head and you can't get out. Lastly expect the worst and plan accordingly. And most important if you can find another way as opposed to being homeless I'd take it.
