OK. so the Colombian military and the press make it seem like Colombia ambushed the FARC like a mile or two inside Ecuador.. But I was just reading an article on this well known Mexican Professor, Jose Luis Morett who's daughter was critically wounded in the bombing.. Now Morett claims his daughter is not a guerrilla. and the family and he girl claim she was in Ecuador as part of an academic convoy and was staying in a village.. hmm??
im confused.. so.. near the Ecuador border there has to be villages that host international studens? if this is the case why bomb so close to a neutral environment???

the press is really using this to bash chavez and correa. i just read the Bloomberg article on the dominican republic summit, and the only quotes are from uribe haranguing correa (and mention of correa walking out, to which uribe says he will not participate until correa returns to hear the charges), and then they say something about how uribe isnt talking much during the summit- if thats so, wheres the quotes from chavez, correa, or anyone else? and whose the US representative at the summit? if its a bunch of heads of state, surely at least Rice should be there.
also, recall that in the OAS vote criticizing the attack, only the US voted with Colombia on the resolution.
and according to all sources, it was 1.1 miles in. but still, looks like colombia's taking lessons from israel

also, we had about fifty protesters outside the colombian consulate yesterday here in chicago, mostly colombians and gringos, but central americans, mexicans and ecuadorians showed up, for an international day of protest against colombian paramilitarism. they showed footage of the much larger marches in latin america.
