I oughta get me some Linux!
Has anyone here seen the "is your washroom breeding Bolsheviks" paper towel ads?
Linux seems like a very cool idea, though. A whole bunch of super-smart kids getting together and creating a product that's better than anything money can buy. If only I was better with my computer . . . I'd install Linux in two seconds flat! Does anyone here use it?

linux is related to communism, for it's free, but the thing that anoyes capies the most (in my opinion) is that Big Brother can't enter in your PC when you're on the Net, and supervise it's content.
Deny: is it easy to get in US?
Yes, it takes a long time to install everything you want in it, and make it work, and learn how does it work, but it pays off.

linux isnt as hard as everyone makes it out to be.. windows is hard if you're unfamiliar with it.... it's just a matter of getting to know your environment..
linuxiso.org -- you can download many versions of linux here, i recommend mandrake if you're new to linux, since it's very easy to install and has a very wide hardware support.

From what I heard it's like this.
Mandrake - Best for Beginners
Coral - Shit (I'd agree, this is the one I tried)
SuSE - The best one if you can install it and set it up
Redhat - Basically the industry leader but isn't as good as Mandrake or SuSE.

Ive got Linux Mandrake v8.0. I installed it on my second hard drive on my old computer. When I took the second hard drive out of my old computer to put on my new one, there was a boot virus on the first hard drive, (caused by a program that shouldn't be on the installation disk). I managd to write over the boot virus with Acronis OS selector v5.0 (which fucked up windows on my new pc) to get into windows, but it was very very very vvvvvvvvvvverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyy slow. So I am not hapy at that particular installation disc and also Acronis. Guess what, since my new PC was new when it became fucked by acronis os selector, I tried using the compaq diskette to "return it to the factory settings" but it stopped at 70% every time I ran it. No I am stuck with 70% of an os, an linux which dont have an internet connection. because I have a winmodem.

Communism is about collective opression, Linux is about collective programming. I wouldn't say Linux is communism, because the only thing they have in common is that they are based on the same idea of group dynamics. However, that is where similarities end. If you think about it, they are nothing alike. The open source concept could never work as a form of government, and communism wouldn't work for making software. In communism, people are forced to do things, stifiling motivation. Linux is made by computer programmers who want to or do it as a job. It is not made by a group of people who have been forced to. I also wouldn't say Windows is capitalism. Capitalism is about healthy business and whatnot. Microsoft is about soft money, illegal business practices, and Big Brother. I use Linux, but I also have Windows. I looked into my temporary internet files folder from Linux, and found a whole bunch of very distubing things. The history folder has them too. The files are all called "index.dat" but they are hidden in folders with confusing names like, "hg7f5tx58" to confuse. Also, the file browser is programmed not to display them. The only reason I found them is because I used GMC.
In short:
Linux=the result of a collective effort, not a communistic one.
Windows=Big Brother

Microsoft corporation gave little to political parties until he was attacked by the justice department. Many people speculate that was the overall purpose of the investigation and the charges brought by the government.

I used RedHat Linux, but it did fuck my computer some bit. I didn't have internet at the time, so i couldn't bring anything in on it.

>>> opera,netscape
Come off it Markxs, Netscape has sucked since 1997. I know it's really trendy to say you boycott Microsoft (or any variation thereof which may or may not include a dollar sign...), but it's a simple fact that Opera and Netscape are inferior products. If they weren't, then maybe they'd get more product share. Or maybe it's all a big conspiracy... ::gasp!::

I'm a happy Linux User, and regretfully WinXP user, Linux is good for everything else, its not that supportative at the moment as a Workstation for the computer newbie, Linux also lacks good support in games. Although Wine is a option, its not very supportive of some games, WineX on the other hand uses MicroCraps DirectX drivers, but costs for subscription to RPMS.

"but it's a simple fact that Opera and Netscape are inferior products"
I don't know about Netscape, but having seen Opera in action at my friend's computer and hearing every single computer geek ever to open his mouth about Opera saying it is superior to explorer, I can't but disagree. You don't work for this monopoly shit-company (known as microsoft), do you?
One of my other friends has set up a Linux server, and knows pretty much about it. Maybe i should have him teach me about it.
And if game compatibility is an issue for anyone (it is for me), there are loads of emulators to fix that.

Ahh, I miss Lynx. Sadly, too much online is graphics-based now, so Lynx just doesn't quite work, but it was a helluva browser.
