History is one of my favorite subjects in school/personal pastime. What are some good history books on the left movements. I want to get some on the Soviet Union, The Spanish civil War, The Cuban Revolution and any other major left events in history. So far I have "Revolution and Counterrevolution: Class Struggle in a Moscow Metal Factory" and "Homage To Catalonia" on my list. What are some other good ones to check out?

A good recommendation is "The Mexican Revolution" by Adolfo Gilly, I believe he's actually a Trotskyist and wrote this book in prison back in the 60's. I know you didn't ask about Mexican history, but it is a good book and I had to spread the news.

This might not be exactly what you're looking for, but I'm currently reading the book 500 Nations by Alvin M. Josephy, Jr. It's a pretty large book on the history of the indigenous peoples of North and Central America. It might not necessarily be full of socialist/communist/anarchist ideas, but it shows a great example of a race of people that have been treated savagely for hundreds of years by white, usually elitist, men. Not that it matters, but I believe that the indigenous people of the Americas were subjected before the Africans were. The Africans were slaves elsewhere, but after the Native Americans became sick from the absence of immunity to European diseases, the Africans were taken to the North Amerian continent. It still shows, in great detail, the early exploits of American, French, Spanish, and English imperialism at its worst.
