For any of you who have read lord of the flies, by william golding, i am writing a report in english about how the autor is trying to say capitalism is terrible but eventually takes over and sets up a totalitarian almost monarchy regime (like in real life?)
I need your opinions on how Jack's tribe is capitalism and Ralph's tribe is socialism, and jack uses his abundance of pig meat to gain power and rule over his workers, whilke in ralphs tribe he gives fruit to everyone
any thoughts?

That was on my tenth grade English class' reading list. I read a teeny bit of the actual book, but I saw a film version that really captured the spirit of the book well. In other words, I really don't know much about the book, but I can try to aid you.
If Jack had all that disgusting swine flesh and used it to gain power, then the swine would be most like money. Apparently, the flesh was not equally distributed amongst Jack's people. Similarly charactized with the capitalistic system, the lives of the savages (in Jack's group) were marked by an abundance of something that still could not easily be obtained by all of the people. Since Ralph shared his fruit with everyone, his "system" would resemble socialism, because of the equal distribution. He had enough fruit and everyone in his society or group was able to have the same amount of fruit as his counterpart.

Oh yeah! Jack gained his power by having something that everyone wanted (and even needed; they needed nourishment). Jack, like the rich in our society, was powerful and had a great deal of influential power mainly because of what he had..

I would like to be a pessimist but I know it will never work out.
Resistence is fertile.

Jack gets to power because Ralph could not resist he wouldn't use violence and didn't have the ideas to speak up
when he turns to violence Piggy dies
the one who started with any ideas of equal the one who wasn't exepted
this leaving Ralph with nothing making him run not turning back to fight

Wow, I haven't read that book in about four years(read it in 5th grade). That was before I became a commie... never thought of it that way. Guess I'll have to read it again.

The actual Lord of the Flies was a pig.
Actually, in latin, Lord of the Flies was used in refrence to Beelzebub; a figure in judeo-christian religions.

When I read that book, I honestly thought it was a piece of elitist trash. What I got out of it was that there are two classes of people -- in this case, children and adults. When the "children" are left alone, it's impossible for them to cooperate and work together. Instead, they end up fighting amongst themselves and killing eachother. For this reason, it's necessary to have "adults" to keep the "children" in line. In other words, the proletariat is too unruly and stupid to do anything for itself.
This falls in line with the "false conciousness" that many of us in western societies ail of. Ralph is you -- you're one of the few good people in a world full of maniacs. Just like when we turn on the TV news and they tell us that there's a murderer or a child molester in every neighborhood just waiting to strike. Of course, you're never the vile beast that you hear about, so it must be all those other shady characters that live down the street. This is what the book is pushing. It's trying to convince you that everyone around you is fundamentally evil and if you don't have someone to keep them in line, they'll turn on you.
Of course, I think that's full of crap. But that's just what I read into it, with the help of my 10th grade english teacher.

I wrote an essay about classism in LOF, but I gave it a Stalinist-elitist perspectice, the elite hunters under Jack were the ruling totalitarian class. Ralph and his failed utopianists were the proles, and I got an 'A'
It was like six pages long.
