well there's been alot of talk about the 'best leftist band' on this forum. so, that all said, what band do you think acted/acts the most on their opinions and so on and why.
i say crass. I'll write abit about why abit later!

I think all of those bands I listed didn't just pretend to be about left wing politics for public opinion or commercial success . Each one of those bands I think really stuck to their guns publically and privately unlike the Sex Pistols biggest hypocrites ever to come outta the punk world

The Clash , The Redskins, The Oppressed, Dead Kennedy's...

I'd agree with those and also add The Blaggers ITA & The Special AKA.

But if I had to choose just 1 it would be the Redskins. A band that truly
walked it like the talked it.

Totally , I'm a big Specials fan as well. Yeah I'm gonna agree The Redskins are pretty much kings of the hill.

Oi Polloi springs to mind. I used to go hunt sabbing in the 80s with a few members, see em at demos, and I'm pretty sure they helped out at the local anarchist centre.

Conflict are up there too. Member(s) were involved in setting up the A team a group that would deal with heavy handed huntsmen by handing them back a bit of their own medicine.

as if! the clash turned out to be the big capitalist wankers they pretended to hate all along!

but yes it has to be crass, there are many many reasons why, a few being:
a) their lyrics are amazing
b) they basically created the whole anarcho punk movement
c) they were involved in direct action
d) they were non profit - all proceeds went to their commune, record company or benefit organisations

Gotta agree for the most part on the Clash, but Joe Strummer kept it going. In the 80s he did the rock against the rich tour and his last tour before he died a lot if not all the gigs were done as benefits for the striking firemen.

Another one I'd like to chuck into the mix is Billy Bragg. Good ole uncle Billy. The man's been on more demos than I've had hot dinners. I know he's a reformer and at the 97 general election he advocated voting labour, but he still believes in the class struggle.

Brigada Flores Magon.
Definately.
Although they are anarchists,i can't help to admire their commitment to leftist ideology and activism. Their members also play i other bands spreading the idea.
If somebody didn't listen to this RASH streetpunk band, download it and you won't be dissapointed.

MC5, maybe their music wasnt really political but they were in several radical leftwing organisations and they were there where the action happened.

yeah I don't think they ever played for money, the only gigs they did were benefits.

The only downs I can put on Crass are their pacifism, which ended up many times with Colin & Paco of Conflict + mates defending the Crass audience from attack from Neo-Nazis.

Can't think of any bands that walked the walk more than those on the U.K. anarcho punk scene.

Aus Rotten, Oi Polloi, and Nausea are Anarcho-Punk bands that have really shown devotion to Anarchism throughout the years. The Clash, Dead Kennedys, and the Redskins come to mind as well.

There is one group I have been wondering about. Has anyone heard of Government Mule (older band), and do you know if they are right wing libertarian, or left wing?

I would assume they are right wing, but I've only heard one of there song's (30 Day's In the Hole) so really don't know. I've seen a few of their song titles, and they don't seem to be about the corruption of the capitalist system, just typical "states rights, anti-tax, weapons rights" stuff. Am I correct?

Trueness! And I don't know if they're actually politically aligned but Operation Ivy has been the fuel of the Anarchists in my local scene for forever.

That's what I thought. Though reading up on them they make it seem like Jello just went insane, even though, from all I know, he's the only one that still does things with meanin

in general anarchopunk bandstend to be good at this. A//Political and Crass are especially cool, as well as Sin Dios. RATM, while an awsome group, doesn't really "walk the walk", same with the clash. i think the best groups are often local underground groups, such as (in my neck of the woods) Iskra, Leper, Eleuthros.

and Leftover Crack/Choking Victim deserve a mention, for their support of squatting.
