So i've got an account over at chess.com and they recently introduced a tournament feature.

Unfortunately as i'm not a paying member it can only be a max of 7 players in a round-robin style tournament:

After we've got seven players i'll start a tournament and send invites to all the people who wanted to be in (you'll have to PM me the name of your account on chess.com so i know who to invite) - and then there'll be a round-robin tournament involving those players.

Lol, unfortunately as none of us are paying members of chess.com the only type of tournaments we can set up are round-robins; so nothing to simulate a Leftcom vs A vs Trot vs Stalinist -type deal.

Though there could be a few mini round-robins to establish the best player of each category and then have the winners play off in a GRAND IDEOLOGICAL BATTLE~! or something :)

u could use a chess program to help chose your moves, chess.com also counts getting help off other people as cheating http://www.chess.com/legal.html#rules It should be almost impossible to detect though.

Right, so Whizzinators was basically saying, "To beat me, you'd have to use a chess program"? What the hell. Crud, it was a close game. For that matter, I also lost to a guy on Live Chess recently in a full game without timing out, so presumably they were using a supercomputer? :laugh:
I don't have anybody in my house who plays chess anyways, so I wasn't asking anybody. Even if I was, how the hell would they know?
On the other hand, I have a shared IP with other people here, which is why I randomly found my IP banned on Wikipedia for vandalism which I hadn't done, forcing me to register an account, so it could be for being a suspected multi.
Anyways, I sent them a message to ask why I was banned.

Hi, I just saw this thread. I probably can't join this tournament (though if there are 2 extra players maybe you could eject them or something?), so maybe I can play the next one? Funnily, I just joined chess.com earlier today on a friend's advice. I had just come 2nd in a tournament, and he said it would be a good place to improve my game, since he can still thrash me easily. :(
Of course, I'm also reading books and such, like Reuben Fine's on the openings, 'The Art of Attack', which was very helpful, and 'Storming the Barricades', which was brilliant. I'm also going to buy some other books by Christiansen. Also, I'm studying games by people like Lékó and Iron Tigran to work on my defence, though I'm only just starting on that, and progress is slow because I can't concentrate on things like that for too long a stretch. Still, experience is also a good teacher.

Reuben Fine's on the openings
I preferred Collins' 'Understanding the Chess Openings' personally. It got me started, and after more research, I can now play the Sicilian Defence, without screwing up due to not knowing completely the purposes and such of the specific Sicilian variations, as well as reading 'Anti-Sicilians: A Guide for Black' to understand how to counter some of the anti-Sicilian variations that generally screwed me up because I had no idea what to do. Rogozenko's book on the Sveshnikov Sicilian was also brilliant, and I'm looking to start playing that now. Unfortunately, it looks like lots of people play d4 now to avoid the Sicilian. :(
