just curious to know which countries have a pretty powerful leftist presence. including labour unions, political parties, antifa, other sorts of orginazations. anyone know of some cities that have a recognizable leftist community?
also before i forget, any advice on where to go if i end up having to squat?

Fleeing the United States to other capitalist countries under the influence of the United States is a hollow victory isn't it?
Don't get me wrong, not bumping your decision...I've made my mind to leave the U.S. also when I finish college.
Only problem, there's not too many places where you can go to escape, seeing as the U.S. has allies and military bases on every continent.
There's always Cuba, but it's only 90 miles away with the addition of having Guantanamo Bay. Venezuela...but Hugo Chavez has not completely eliminated the ruling class, yet and I doubt plans to reinstall a puppet regime there have been dropped.
I think I thought about this too much. Just pick a city in Europe, I guess. :(

You could always go up northeast of North America (whether US or Canada).
Or practically any major city in Europe (at least compared to the US).

Amsterdam, Netherlands. Still capitalist, but Americans only come here for the hookers and blow, even if they're "fleeing". If you want to know anything about squatting here, ask here: http://www.kraak-forum.nl/ .gov is really cracking down on squatting recently though, lots of raids. Right-wing parties have been calling for a ban for ages.

Also a good town for squatting.

It depends on what kind of environment you want. Keep in mind that Europe is far to the North, so it's colder and grayer than South Florida. Might as well move to Vancouver for that. What languages do you speak? You might consider Venezuela.
Why not fight to make America socialist instead?

well first of all i hate south florida because of the one season humidity, and im in favor of cold and grey, lol. i speak serbian but i dont want to live there because theres too much nationalism, and theres gunna be some more warring there pretty soon anyways.
as for making america socialist, i would love for that to happen, i just cant stand it here, so until it becomes socialist, america is not where i wanna be.

I used to feel like leaving the US for a more leftist place but realized that such attitudes cause a concentration of us in one area and leaves fewer people to counter the reactionary right. But as long as you're set, or you're leaving for non-political reasons, this page could be of use:

Sweden and Finland are sort-of getting there.

Hmm, not exactly. The Netherlands is at the same height as Canada, but the weather is significantly warmer than in Canada or the north-eastern US. In those places (and even much further to the south in the US), you get a lot of snow during the winter, while here you only get a little, and it's not very frosty, either.
Going south, the mediterrenean countries lie at about the same height as the north-eastern US, but the weather there is much more like Florida (much less humid, I imagine though). And of course, they all have strong communist parties. ;)

At some point I will be leaving. I think about it all the time. I know I will be here till after my parents passing. Outside of my parents I have no desire to stay here whatsoever I'm willing to wait so I can be here for my parents as they enter this part of their life.

Detailed plans for leaving? Last I checked most EU countries have pretty strict rules for citizenship, as in you need money & a professional job offer.
I can't imagine a socialist America, just a bleak impoverished consumerist hellhole, of ex-bourgeoisie shopping at dollar stores, dying narcissistic baby boomers turning to desperate religions...
Aside from building a sailboat, or marrying a European, just how does one escape from America?

New Zealand doesn't have any military bases but the left movement is very small.

I agree with your post and I think you bring up a good point that people really don't take the time to look into as much as they should. I will say this though it can be done and I actually know quite a few people who have done it and some have had not the best experience and others it hasn't been as difficult. I think though if someone is serious about it they should really look into what they are doing first off and consider the pros and cons of where they are planning to go.

South Florida is tropical, comrade. Yeah, we're definitely more humid. You get used to it. Now days when I head back to Chicago, which is built on a swamp and quite humid for the MidWest, I feel like I'm covered in a fine layer of dust.
The main disagreement I have with Europe's weather is that you get significantly less sun (and a lot more clouds). I'm solar powered. I need sunshine, lots of sunshine, or depression hits me very, very hard.
I think Europe is likely comparable to the Pacific North West. It's significantly warmer than the rest of the country in the winter, but cooler during the summer. And almost as rainy.

Call attention to the epidemic of anti-LGBT hate violence in Florida
Please join us Thursday, February 28th for a vigil to call attention to the epidemic of anti-gay and anti-transgender hate crimes in Florida. We are honoring the life of Simmie Williams, Jr., a teen, whose life was tragically halted when he was gunned down in cold-blooded murder last Thursday night. The vigil is a call to action to mobilize communities against crimes of hate.
Currently the police are investigating Simmie's murder as a hate crime based on accounts from witnesses at the scene. Few other details are known.
Late Saturday night, only two days later, two men were assaulted, one brutally attacked outside of The Floridian, an historic Fort Lauderdale diner. Their assailant using anti-gay slurs during the assault. "Are you looking at me, you f*****? You know what I do to f*****? I break their necks," spewed from the assailants mouth before he pummeled the victim.
We can be horrified, but we cannot be surprised. Enough is enough, it's time we take a stand. As a community we must not let a cold blooded murder and hate violence in our own backyard go unaddressed.
Our horror, our outrage, our prayers are empty today until we take action to protect the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students and their families - indeed all of us from this predictable epidemic of violence. Here's the truth: We let anti-gay hatred and violence flourish in our schools and we are all responsible for not stopping it before the blood spills out into the street.
Join us as we gather to remember Simmie and stand up against the rising tide of violence Thursday, Feb 28th at 4:30 for a memorial service at the murder site at the1000 block of Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale.
Immediately following, join community leaders and elected officials for a town hall at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center (1717 N. Andrews Ave.) at 6:30.
