Ok the peace process between Abbas and Olmert is going nowhere. Olmert is fucking messing around with abbas, and is not going to give him anything he wants. You think that they should declare that a Palestinian state has been formed, without any involvement from Israel?

The US backs Kosovo and Israel. That about says it in a lot of ways, unfortunately.

Who would do it? The government of the Palestinian Authority? They have more immediate problems on their hands (the Hamas/Fateh split), so they arent even coherant enough to do so. And when it becomes independant, what then? There is not enough infrastructure or industry to prevent Israel from still doing exactly what it is doing. What happens to the Arabs with Israeli citizenship? An independant Palestine would seem like a good excuse to get rid of unwanted demographics to Israel.
I do not see this as a feasible option, and even if it where, a two state solution will solve nothing. One cosmopolitan and secular state is the only option, damn the name or flag it bears. As long as there is equal citizenship and rights, it wouldnt matter if it is called the United Republic of Fuckistan and it bears the Jolly Roger. Equality and Freedom is the issue.

unfortunately for the palestinian people, the only way to obtain state status in the international arena is to be recognized as a state by other states and the UN. The Palestinian territories are currently not part of any state, so therefore they cannot claim independence. They could try to obtain statehood, however no other states, aside from Iran and Syria seem interested in recognizing Palestine as a state.

First, RNK is basically correct.
They could try to obtain statehood, however no other states, aside from Iran and Syria seem interested in recognizing Palestine as a state.

It's not just about independence. It's also about the land and the history with it.

Right. The UN has told Israel to get out of their occupied land but refuse to do so and they (Israel's government) are doing all of this illegally and sadly nobody has enough balls to do something about it.
Palestine has declared independance for the past half-century...
