I'm Mike, from Northern Ontario, in Canada, and I decided to let my mind wander over here to get a bigger view of the political picture. I am part Social Democrat, part Democratic Socialist, so I thought a leftist board might be an interesting place to go and discuss issues.

Hi im Canadian too and at one time used to vote for the NDP, but i see now the NDP is more reformist than anything

they believe in reforming society rather than a complete change in society.

And this forum is a great place. I love it here. I am more comfortable here than at any other forum I've ever been too. I can be myself here and not get flamed !

Everyone here is sweet (well almost everyone). I am sure you will like them too.

Keep in mind that in order to facilitate and protect the revolutionary leftist nature of this website, many non-revolutionaries, including many Social Democrats, liberals and such are restricted to the Opposing Ideologies section, where they are encouraged to partake in (admitedly limited) discussion without potentially disturbing the rest of the board from its main goal (the aforementioned discussion of revolutionary politics).

Many views you find here may seem rather alien, violent, and disturbing to you (depending on your actual nature) however I would suggest that you keep an open mind and try to focus more on why we have come to the conclusions we have (namely, revolution, violent if necessary) rather than on our methods. The NDP in my mind is not a very leftist or revolutionary party but there are tendencies within it which could legitimately claim that title, and it is still further left than the Liberals, so I hope you stay and learn some things that ol' Jackie may not want you to hear. :)

He may not understand what is meant by revolution. A revolution is a great transformation of a society. It can be sudden and violent, as in October 1917 Lenin Russia one, or it can be a great transformation of society in just a short while with no violence, such as the Quebec, Canada, "Quiet Revolution" of the 1960's with Jean Lesage, who was Quebec's premier at the time. Or, it can take place at a longer time span of many generations, such as the Industrial Revolution. Or the Marxist idea that a transformations of society will take place over a number of time periods (aka feudalism, then pre capitalism, then capitalism, then socialism and so on) that will happen over many centuries. What they all have iin common though is a great and total restrcuturing and change of society.

We all here believe in revolutions of one type or another. Some violent and some less so and some not. But don't be frightened of us. We are a good group here.

I have always been fascinated by the 1917 Revolution, and even though I am a social democrat, as I said, I am wanting to open my mind to a more leftist view. I am not a person that forces ideology down someones throat, and I wouldn't want the same, so I just want to be able to receive a better knowledge of what the revolutionary left stands for. I don't want to "disturb" any part of this board, and will do anything to keep the board as it is meant to be. I will keep my current views and concerns at the Opposing Ideologies board, and continue to educate myself on your views while asking questions that you wouldn't find hurting the nature of the board. I have seen many things in other places, so "alien, violent, and disturbing" are just words, and I wouldn't care whatsoever about these things. I thank you for stating you concerns, and I promise to stay true to the real meaning of the board, as stated by RNK.
