Just wanted to show u. Its leader is a guy from my university, Memorial University of Newfoundland, who doesnt beat around the bush trying to force his anti abortion ideas on others. His name is Patrick Hanlon. Big ultra conservative catholic :scared:

He even joined our MUN Student Union just so he could get his MUN for life anti choice group ratified by our union.

I was a member of that union in 2003. I refused to vote yes for ratification of his group.

People even run for MUNSU just so he cant get elected, and people tear down his posters, and post the worst flames towards him on boards where MUN students congregate.

What can I say, the man's beliefs are well hated.

Isn't it funny that these groups are always led by 1. men, or less commonly, post-menopausal women 2. conservatives who hate sex and physical pleasure and anything that distracts you from thinking about god, work, family and country 3. they don't mind blowing up foreign babies or executing minors...and they have the audacity to call themselves 'pro life'.

No, they didnt get ratified (thank the stars)

and yes when I met the women who worked at the NL right to life association, they were all older women, post menopausal, some of them senior citizens. I hate that they want to take all goodness out of women having a say in what happens to their own bodies,, sex and the sex instinct which is all a beautiful thing, and replace it with something that is for authoritarians and ayatollahs.

yeah, these right wing fools call abortion murder in a medical building, but don't give a crap about over 700,000 dead Iraqis or all the Afghans killed by bombs or all the innocents in America's prisons (I would say 4/5 of the prisoners: America has 5% of the world's population, but 25% of the inmates. France has incarceration rates 5 times smaller than those of America, but similar crime rates.) What is it with the conservative obsession with human rights abuse?

N.L. Right to Life says HPV vaccine big mistake

CBC News

The Newfoundland Right to Life Association says the government's plan to vaccinate schoolgirls against the human papillomavirus, or HPV, will lead more young people to engage in risky sexual behaviour.
The provincial Department of Health and Community Services announced Tuesday that it would begin a three-year program in September to vaccinate 2,800 Grade 6 girls across the province.
The Newfoundland Right to Life Association describes its mission as "to protect human life at all stages, from conception to natural death."
Patrick Hanlon, president of the association in St. John's, said he's afraid the vaccination program is going to provide young people "a licence, a green light to go ahead and be sexually active …… leading to a rise in sexually transmitted diseases and promiscuity in general."
Provincial Health Minister Ross Wiseman said he believes the vaccination program will do more good than harm.
The province chose to target Grade 6 girls, Wiseman said, because research shows many girls begin having sex long before they're adults.

"A point where girls are just on the eve of becoming sexually active," Wiseman says. "Beyond that they become much more sexually active. It's important to get to them before they start."
The vaccine, Gardasil, protects against four types of HPV, which together cause 70 per cent of cervical cancers and 90 per cent of genital warts. Health Canada approved Gardasil in July for females between the ages of nine and 29 and it will be available for use at the end of August.
The province will spend $4.6 million on the three-year vaccination program, money that was set aside in the 2007 federal budget specifically for the program.
Newfoundland and Labrador follows other Atlantic provinces, as well as B.C. and Ontario, in planning to offer the vaccination to students.

The City of St. John's has cracked down on the owner of a rooming house that a resident says has deplorable living conditions.
Rooming house in wretched shape: resident, activist

"This is like skid row in Vancouver somewhere," said Gary Boone, one of four men living in a house at 68 Hayward Ave.
A city inspector cited the house with 13 deficiencies, including mouldy walls, piles of garbage and a missing safety rail on the second floor landing.
Two of the four men living in the house receive psychiatric care. Another is being treated for addictions.

Boone, who's lived in the house for four months, and others have complained about what they call deplorable conditions in the house, but a contractor only started work on repairs on Thursday —— a few days after St. John's Mayor Andy Wells said he would name the landlord at council's next public meeting.
Residents of the rooming house said landlord Patrick Hanlon turned off the water for 10 days last month rather than fix a leak.
They complained to Sister Sharon Basha, a Roman Catholic nun who is co-director of the nearby Gathering Place social services centre.
Basha places the blame squarely on Hanlon's shoulders.

Patty Hanlon......Gotta love him.....

and he says he is a fighter and protector of life???
