OK so i want to gauge my ears (not very big) but I'm going to have to start out with regular ear piercings (my parents r really against that sort of thing so they can't know till it's done) has anyone done this? or have any tips on how to grow them out or take care of them? much thanks

Do you have your ears pierced already? If you haven't, do NOT get it done with a gun, it's barbaric. Get it done with a needle, and if you can ask them to do it with a larger needle if possible.
Never skip a gauge, if your unsure what gauge to use, ask your piercer, even better, most piercing shops will stretch it for you.
And the holes will shrink gradally bac when yo take them out, unless you go over a certain auge, most people say 8mm is the 'point of no return'.

It's probably better to pierce it yourself, than to do it with a gun, dependin on what you use.
Guns are bad for many reasons. You can't autoclave them, which is a device which sterilises things, so they aren't properly sterile. And they actually pierce it with the jewellery, so no flesh is actually being taken out, it's like the difference between tearing paper, and punching a hole through it. The jewellery they pierce it with is also very low quality.
The best choice is to get it done in a piercing shop, this is also usually the cheapest choice.

I'm pretty sure I'd rather get it done with the gun to avoid the pop

if you keep them under 10mm, they go back to normal.

They always look painful, but its their body, so I suppose noone can tell them what to do with it.

They aren't painful because you stretch them extremely gradually, by the mm. And Guns are barbaric because, like I explained, they are unsterile, and are puching the actual jewellery through the hole.

unsterile? i don't know where you've been going mate.
so puunching is barbaric but stabbing isn't?

It's true, guns generally aren't sterile, seen as though you can't Autoclave it, which is the machine used for sterilising piercing equipment. When I say it's barbaric, I mean in the way that it causes more pain and doesn't actually take any flesh out. If a piercer does it, it's a hollow needle that is being used so flesh IS Being taken out.
A major concern with piercing guns is tissue trauma, a blunt stud is being forced through the skin, it has to literally rip the skin in order for the jewellery to be put in place.
I have 5 piercings in my left ear right now, I HAD 6, one of which was done with a gun, that is the ONLY piercing out of the 8 I have had that has got infected.

Well, I've been at a 00 for about a month now, and it took me a few months to get here. I was going up a size every two weeks, What you can do, is get a bag of steel tapers off the internet for about $20. I started out by putting jumbo yellow paperclips through my ears. I don't recommend this, because it is not safe, it's obviously not sterile, and is unhygenic on top of being strange. But by the time I put tapers in, I was able to use about a 14G. It's best to gauge up right after you take a bath or shower, because the piercing is already slippery, and therefore easier to slide through. If you want to have larger gauges, it would be best for you to just buy bags of tapers, because you won't be wearing the jewelry very long, so you don't need lots of different kinds, and plus, tapers are much easier to get through than a plug. MUCH easier. The jump from 2G to 0G was the ouchiest, in my opinion. I never had any trouble with my gauges until I got to 0G, when my right one got infected. It gets all red, and tight and swollen, but cleaning it vigorously with peroxide knocked that right out, and it was fine in about two days. I usually tried to leave the new gauges in until the soreness went away before I changed jewelry or anything like that. You will get ear-cheese, and it will be smelly and disgusting and gross, but if you take them out and clean them everytime you're in the shower, you won't have it nearly as often. Once you get to 0G, I have found in my personal experience that silicone squishy tunnels are easiest to work with. All you have to do is fold them up and put them in your ear, and you can skip the taper part; and surprisingly, it hurt less than the taper. Also, I'm not really sure what the "point of no return" is; I think it might be different for different people, according to how your body heals or something, because I lost a zero for a night and in the morning it was a 2G again. I don't plan on going past a half-inch, myself.
And if you need to see how to fold the squishies, I can show you that later.
Hope this helped. =]
Good luck.

I forgot to add this:
If you need to keep them concealed, longish hair hides them quite well. My employer never noticed it, and my mother didn't realize they were there until I was showing my brother that I could put glowsticks in my ears. :D

Okay, these are silicone tunnels; they're flexible, or squishy.
