when was your first protest and what was it for?
My first protest for social justice and the rights of grade school students to have happiness in schools was in 1996, I believe. I was 18 and was in high school. The province of Newfoundland was considering removing all extra curricular activities from grade schools at that time. So one day thousands of students walked out of schools around Newfoundland to protest in the streets. It must have worked, because no action was taken to dismantle extra curricular activities in the schools. (which is a big part of social programs. They contribute much to the enrichment of a society. Of course any leftist knows this well.)
To cut back on social programs is to set the stage for the destruction of a society in my opinion.

I protested for the rights of us illegal immigrants, for the right to become citizens of the US.
Now don't get me wrong even if we ever got citizenship, a future revolution must be done to overthrow the burgoisie(sorry if i misspelled it), but that's another subject.

My first was back in '96 when we marched against Slobodan Milosevic's regime.
I was very young back then and all i could understand was fury against the nazi who called himself socialist, but parties who organised it were neoliberal,so u can call my involvement wrong.
My opinions matured after that:)

My first protest was last March with the SDS against the Iraq War. I'm not the most outgoing person so it took me a while to build up the courage to take part in something.

My very first protest was in 1987 at Northern Illinois University (the school that just go shot up a few days ago). We were protesting lack of money for education. That was where I ran into my first "organized" socialists, the John Lennon society, aka News and Letters. I was not impressed and it would be another two years before I self identified as a commie.

Yea, when I was involved in our annual Take Back the Night March (which is when we advocate for the right of women to, walk the streets alone at night without a man with them) our chant was
"Not the church, not the state, women must decide their fate!"

I've never actually been to a protest.
My parents protested Exxon corp. after they annihilated the Alaskan ecosystem during the Exxon Valdez oil spill. They've shown me pictures of me as a toddler there, so I guess you could say I was at a protest. Although I was probably not entirely engaged with what was happening. :D
On a brief side note, the Exxon Valdez case is going to be heard by the Supreme Court, which could finally mean justice for the thousands of fisherman and workers across the state who helped clean up Exxon's mess. I hope we don't get screwed.

I went to a couple of those with my mom as a wee 'un. And yes, I'm a guy, and yes, even though I was maybe 8 years old it was awkward.
Really though, the first technical demonstration I was ever at was when I was, maybe 4 years old. I was in preschool and we were protesting cuts in education funding. I understood what was going on, and I had the same opinion on it, more or less, as I do today. So none of this nonsense about "you were too young to understand".
Maybe a more legitimate example, still, was all the Iraq War stuff. There was like weekly goings on pretty formally for a couple months here. I was about 11.

Absolutely. Children know a lot more than adults think they can know.
I dont buy that children are too young and such nonsense.
They say that to young leftists as well. "oh u think this way now but when you get my age....."
The fact is that young people can be more perceptive even than adults a lot of times. I'm not sure why, maybe that they are young and have not yet been fully corrupted by society.

My first protest was aimed at a store that a capitalist was stealing money from worker and the item there was expensive. We won by replacing the owner and the owner gave the worker back the money he owned. that happened around Lower East Side of Manhattan year 1995

1972 - Vietnam War protest in Central Park - I was just a high school freshman, but my best friend's older sister was one of the organizers. Honestly, at that age, I was more into the 'scene' and being anti-authoritarian. I was halfway through college before attending another demonstration.

I don't remember if it was an animal rights protest or an anti-bigotry counterprotest... both of them happened fairly close to each other in time.
