Present-Day-Cuba might as well have a sign on the doors of power saying Whites only.

Currently, Cubas blacks and mulattos make up more than 60 percent of the islands population but hold less than 20 percent of the leadership positions in government. By one estimate, less than 10 percent of the top leadership in the Politburo is nonwhite.

The overwhelming number of officials working at the highest levels of the Cuban government and military are white.

Not Too Many Black Faces in this list of Current Cuban Leaders?

And let me remind everyone that Batista, former Cuban dictator, was a MULATTO - So I don't want any bullshit about how Batista promoted racism more than Fidel.

how many black or female presidents has the US had~and before you cite Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice~I get the feeling that they tolerate them to gain a sizeable proportion of the black vote~evn though both could do a better job than George Dubya

Well Let's hear it again!

Look at the site - and tell me how many black faces do you see in Cuban Government?

Son of Scargill - don't use reverse-racism - I don't buy it.

-You forgot to mention Clarence Thomas (Another Black Republican)

African-American

European-American

Cuban-American

German-American

Mexican-American

Irish-American

WHO CARES!!!

We are all American

- it is time we start acting like it, or racism will always be in the United States. In fact, I didn't know what racism was until I started hearing Jesse Jackson preach constantly about it.

Is there anybody else trying to prove the ultra silly point you are trying to make out of very thin air in the whole wide world?

Well, capitalist,do you want the more internationalist view,or the english view.
Of the 23 pictures(out of 150 politburo members)I would say definately 3,with 1(maybe 2)of mixed race.Which is not disimilar to the UK,regarding members of the higher echelons of govt.

In the english view, they are all black, with the possible exception of 1,who could have teutonic origins.

The first view is mine, the second view,a piss-take of my country's attitude.

Yes,it was reverse-racism,I admit I just reacted to your post.I still think it is a valid point though. If you are trying to discredit someone else, make sure your own backyard is not in a similar state.
The ultimate racist state,in a lot of peoples view,is still the US and its continuing drive to wipe out every other culture in the world. You system and society want to create its likeness around the world.Possibly because sub-conciously you like to feel familiar with your surroundings. The British Empire liked to create mini Suffolks and Hampshires wherever it went. This also bred contempt and hatred, because it was like saying"your culture sucks,it's inferior and I would rather have my superior lifestyle."No wonder they rebelled.
Have you ever thought of treating other nations and peoples with the dignity and respect they are due,and not just saying these things with all the sincerity of a Las Vegas ballroom compere. You never know,it just might help!

So, Capitalist, does that mean you support Affirmative Action?

I'll tell you what: my job pays shit. I'm Jewish, I'm female and I'm half-black. I think I qualify as a minority. Why don't you send me part of your paycheck? Or, better yet, why don't you just quit and let me take your place?

Affirmative Action is a grey issue for me. I have not yet made a full decision on how to view it.

I strongly support a diversified work/school place - however I do not think that people should obtain their position based on race, sex, or ancestry. Maybe in 1960 I could see a need for it, however there is no need for it in the year 2002.

Legally I can use Affirmative Action to obtain scholarships and jobs because of my Cuban background - making me Hispanic.

But I refuse to. I do not want to obtain my position because I was a Cuban.

I want to obtain my position because I rightfully earned it - not because of a quota.

I've never had to come out and say, "You should hire me because of Affirmative Action," but I work in a deli in a black area, so I guess one reason I was hired is that I'm half Jewish and know my hummuses (The place tries to be Jewish, but there are hardly any Jews around here so any efforts just go over everyone's heads). There are some Colombians who live across the street, and one of them was hired by Taco Bell because he can't get a job anywhere else and the place was making an effort to look legit.

"In fact, I didn't know what racism was until I started hearing Jesse Jackson preach constantly about it."

maybe its good that someone informed you about it, because the fact that you were unaware of it doesn't mean it didn't exist. and name another 3rd world country that isn't racist. i think its more a sign of the economic/social conditions than the government racism.
